Id thought I’d start a new thread for the new car.
If you don’t know the build for my old car is here.
https://cliosport.net/threads/clio-172-cup-rally-race-track-car.809677/
I bought an already rally converted ex Clio Cup race car. It wasn’t in too bad condition but it hadn’t rallied...
You can get everything for them now as it’s still a popular gearbox in France. 2 companies have remanufactured all the parts so if I break it it’s not the end of the world. And I’d have to speak to @NorthloopCup for the socket as he’s the one that will be opening it up.
No going back now.
Loads of parts stripped out and sold, now almost ready trot paint. It could of been a quick turn around but the wiring loom is such a mess I may even get the whole car rewired. It’s probably got more worries inside it than a road going clio.
Found a nice selection of spares...
Made a start on stripping it today so it can be sent for paint whilst the engine and box is out of it. Some interesting bits on this car. The wheel scrapers being one and it’s
wide on the front.
So having all this time off from rallying due to the virus I’ve ended up buying another clio.
This ones an ex cup racer that’s now a rally car. It needs work but with a few bits from my blue car I should have a fairly decent package for 2021
Abis is fastest in the uk on paper. 300bhp megane maxi engine. Same with a few others who had quick ones a couple of years ago, mine will keep up with them at the minute no doubt with the spec it is, but I’ve got a new car which will hopefully be a step up
Mine has been one of the quickest since Steve and Ian haven’t been doing much. Pretty much fastest fwd car on every rally I’ve been on and onboards over epynt dont lie 😉 my cars now going through a new lockdown evolution.
@NorthloopCup 😂
Coronavirus put a stop on the first rally of the year but we still had a test yesterday, was still good to get out in the car and tweak a few more bits with the suspension.
It ended a little earlier than planed. Big bang and it jumped out of gear and on further inspection I’d split the gearbox...
It was fun, a little different to a stage rally. It ran more like a targa, I’d of liked a few more miles on the test stages and a little better maps of the test too, some of it was like driving blind, but other than that it was full. I was on the handbrake all day 😂
Yeah your right with a W too.
W - super soft
M - soft
H - medium
H1 - hard
but if you listen to mrf the H compound is soft, which I’m not buying, it’s rock hard.
Got the tyres on ready for the weekend but I think they’ve made a mistake with the compounds, I have a wet compound and looking at the big H, a hard compound when really I needed soft. 😳
So I’ve decided to enter the network Q Chester rally revival on Friday and Saturday. Some iconic names and cars have entered, with stages through Weston park, Chirk castle, Cholmedeley castle, oulton park, rednal kart track and worlds end which is 500 metres from my house. It’s just going to be...
Its pretty good. Will save me a small fortune on tyres, they do a rally slick in 15” now, just no full wet in 15” until may.
Yeah a wet compound cut would work. But when you’ve used Michelin wets and you have 6 new on rims the cut slick will be no where near in performance.
Yeah they’re got old Pirelli and Dmack staff now And they’re definitely putting some funding into the Rallying with what they’re doing with Breen. Only thing that’s putting me off is they haven’t got a 15” full wet until may and the deal wouldn’t be in place if I ran a Michelin wet if it rained.
The plan is every round except Jim Clark. I’d love to do it but Manx and that in one month isn’t fundable. It means I’ve got a good 2 months to get money in to go over to Ireland for the Tyrone stages.
I’ve got mrf tyres on me for sponsorship but still unsure as it would be a gamble. Especially...
Some nice upgrades coming for this year. I’ve finally had the ohlins fully rebuilt and serviced. It cost a fortune but this is going to transform the car on the closed road rally’s as this year I’m competing in the msuk asphalt rally championship so the suspension upgrade was needed.
I’ve also...
haha toms one of my good mates. He wasn’t with me on sat. Just his names still on the car from last event.
And I’d love to do an event in something proper. See where I’d actually come. Beating most things in the class with a standard at the minute.
