You can make the standard gearstick a lot more solid quite easily but first you need to see where your problem lies.
Up and down play will usually relate to the ball joint in the gearstick housing. This gets worn but can be replaced for less than £10 off eBay.
There is a plastic bush on the...
Can sort you some brass bushes if your interested.
From memory there’s the plastic ball socket on the gearbox and possibly another top hat bush on the linkage although it’s been a while since I’ve had a proper look.
Cheers
Some more info here for you 👍🏻

The Megane / Clio 3 pulley has a key on it so it physically cannot turn on the crank unless the crank moves with it.
Clio 172/182 crank pulleys just slide onto the crank and rely on the torque of the bolt to keep it in place. Which in most applications is good enough 👍🏻
Breaking / selling this for a mate.
listed on eBay this morning first but will be on all the Facebook/ selling pages later on.

Changing the belts on my 172 and cams at the same time.
I’ve see a few people mention using a Megane exhaust pulley as it’s lighter.
Any one got any first hand experience of this?
cheers
Can’t remember 100% but I think I got told to run the 197 spark plugs with that setup.
Also 197 injectors. 225 ones can’t be scaled down enough on these for the power 👍🏻
@scullyg40 currently half way through an engine swap and putting the cams in with fresh belts etc. 197 timing tool arrived the other day so got most of the bits now.
@Niall on here has a 197 hybrid build. His made just over 200bhp at efi if I remember.
All just figures and numbers I know but...
@Mack182
Im in / was in a similar position. No rush, and the want of an engine that’s capable of near 200bhp. Went through the costs of rebuild, bought all the 197 parts you mentioned including pistons, valves etc. Basically everything bar stripping it down to rebuild then it dawned on me the...
@colesy just come across the thread.
Going down a very similar route but with 197 cams. Hoping to get booked into efi at some point this year so will be good to compare the group n vs 197 cams (vague I know)
Depending on offset yeah they fit.
I had et42 on my cup with 10mm rear spacers and 18mm fronts. No issues at all on eibach springs.
Depends how low you are going though.
