It's useful but a bit expensive, plastic bag + elastic band probably works just as well.
in the early airfield days I used to use this...
(I'm still using the same 'airfield' coat 2 1/2 years later!)
Considering the lens (i.e. not hugely fast + 'only' 200mm) I think these are excellent, the horse and rider are nice and sharp in pretty much every image.
As has been mentioned the backgrounds are a little distracting, but probably not too much you can do, maybe try panning? A few 1/50...
I think #2 is going forward, but thanks for the help everyone. I agree with most that #7 is up there, but it's a fairly conventional panning shot that anyone could capture, so I would worry that it could get lost amongst the rest. The more I look at #5, the more I dislike it, yes it was hard...
Some great shots already, I have a feeling we will be getting lots of pics in this thread, so...
PLEASE CLEARLY FLAG YOUR ENTRY!
Even if it means re-posting your entry near the closing date, it will make my life easier. Can people also refrain from posting 'old' images in this thread, it...
Real life foliage is the next step, just rebuilding our garden so once that's done I will get out there and try that out.
As for what people would think if they saw me, I knew I was going to be alone all evening so it was pretty safe!
Thanks for all the replys, I think I'm down to #2 and #7 now. #7 is the safer choice imo but I've always had a thing for #2 as technically that's the hardest shot I've ever pulled off, problem is a lot of people assume it was a photoshop effort.
I just browse Flickr for a few hours occasionally, get loads of ideas and inspiration from that place, pretty much everything that can be done with a camera has been tried, so it's a case of putting your own slant on something that's been done before.
I don't have my original soldiers from...
Got 6 hours to kill this evening as the other half is out and I'm not picking her up until 2am, so I decided to do something constructive (well, sort of) instead of playing on the Wii all evening...
A few more here...

Congrats to Kris86 and James. for the tied victory in the last round, the new subject was drawn out of a hat from the two suggestions and is:
Sky / Clouds
Comp runs from now until midnight Sunday April 13th. Any photos entered must be taken between now and midnight Sunday April 13th...
Thanks for the suggestions guys, I ripped up some of my finest Spongebob notepaper, put the names on, screwed them up, chucked them in the air and then picked one up.
(really, I did, this contest is more thorough than the US election!...)
Anyhow, Kris86 was the name 'drawn out of...
Right, we have a tie.
Congrats to:
James.

I have a new topic from Kris86 so I'm just waiting for James., as I'm not sure what to do in the event of a tie (the extensive rule book doesn't mention it!) I will stick both suggestions in a hat when I get them and pick...
 Aint the best? That and #2 took me about 3 months to nail that sort of photo! Unbelievably hard to achieve.
Just kidding though, each to their own, that's why I'm struggling to be honest, it will all come down to the judges taste at the end of the day.
2 and 6 were technically the hardest to achieve, but as a photo at the moment I would go with 6.
But then I love 5, it's completely different to most motorsport photos I've seen and it does show 'speed' the best...I think, but it's the riskiest shot to go for imo.
Basically, I need some help, which of these pics screams "speed" at you the best? I want something that will stand out amongst hundreds of pics, and I can't choose between these 8.
Any thoughts? And maybe also why you are choosing a particular pic.

Fantastic camera mate, you won't go far wrong with it. It's essentially based on the D70 but has the awesome metering from the D50 and quite a few features from the D200. So it slots in perfectly between the D40/50 and the D200/300 and would be the logical upgrade choice.
Landscapes is a pretty wide-open brief, but even in the strictest sense of the word #1, 3, 4, 10, 11, 14 and 16 would certainly qualify as a landscape.
The Spring bit is completely wide open as far as I'm concerned, it is Spring so any pic taken at this time would be classed as a spring...
Here goes again. Vote will be open until Friday evening so hopefully we can get a challenge started ready for the weekend again (so if you are in the running, think of a new challenge now)
As usual it wasn't always easy figuring out which were entries, so apologies if I've got it wrong, but...
Gutted I missed out on seeing that beast!
Pleased she liked the car, the other half still misses it badly even though she has got her new car now, just can't please them can you!
