What us this hanging in my engine

PMSL. Each to their own. Some people just like to drive their cars, not spend hours cleaning the engine bay!

    clutch problem

I've done a few myself. It's not rocket science. All depends how handy you are with the spanners! (:

    Clutch Release Bearing

Nope. Wear and tear. It does come as part of the kit.. worth mentioning that there's no real rush to change it. I had mine go on my Ph1. Drove it for 4k with the bearing making funny noises, lol.

    clutch problem

I'd imagine so, yeah. Clutch kit's about £100, but most of the cost will be labour. ):

    clutch problem

So the revs were going up, but no physical acceleration? Clutch is slipping, if so.

    Clutch Release Bearing

Clutch release bearing itself costs next to nothing. Gearbox needs removing to fit it though, so mostly labour. While it's out, change the clutch too. Valeo kit is about £100 from GSF/Euro Car parts.

    Recommended garage in Surrey

As said, JMS. James (one of the boys there) is breaking a Ph2 172- he might even have a subframe kicking around!

    Gearbox Question

Not true. Most Ph2 172's and 182's use the ABS for the speedo. Can fit whatever box you want to 'em, fit and go. I've got a box in the shed, if you need one matey..
  21. Budgie

    Gearbox Question

Use an old speedo sensor, if you want to do it properly. Otherwise, a bit of black tape covering it would do. Just to stop muck getting in.

    de-phraser question????

IMO, go to a local meet. Compare it with how all the other cars there sound.

what to do with my damaged blue 172 cup, advice please people, GUTTED

PMSL. Mileage, condition and trade in are irrelevant. It's never worth £4.5k. As Dan said. I can't believe this s**t's still open.
  24. Budgie

    de-phraser question????

Oh, and it's the dephaser. Not dephraser.
  25. Budgie

    de-phraser question????

Semi-synthetic will be fine, mate. As for the noise- let someone who knows the cars have a listen. I've found that most I've heard /owned don't sound smooth. What's the noise like? Ticky, rattly, knocking, lumpy?

what to do with my damaged blue 172 cup, advice please people, GUTTED

This thread is hurting my head. As said- buy parts from a car breaking. Bolt them on yourself. Shouldn't cost you more than £200.
