Think its more for the pitting on the surfaces rather than getting bits of the old gasket off. Although I cant see W&D causing any harm???
You want to do both mating surfaces
I think your meant to use some fine wet and dry to get the mating surfaces perfect before sealing them together! Just make sure you get all the dust out of them.
As for the cam cover people just use that red paste I'm not sure what its called though but there is no gasket!
Its where it vents the fuel vapours to from the CC (i think!!!)

1. Carbon canister - goes to nipple (pt 4) which sits at the back of the plenum
2. For the acoustic valve I believe

Yeah renault paint is so easy to correct but then again it scratches so easily aswell!
