Nope no need for a gasget the cover is held in place with 2 nuts facing forward easy enough to remove its just there so in a crash the injectors won't hopefully leak fuel.

I forget which exact models used it 440/460/480 used it I think 340 didn't use it as thats RWD.

engine could have cut out as it had any number of faults maybe the knocking of the engine affected a sesnor if your worried take it to a garage with the correct equipment to read the fault codes

Depends best way is subframe off and drop them down out but you idealy need ramps. Otherwise engine and box out the top as one. Any JC or JB box realy ie anything from a Clio v6 and 197 excepted and loads of other renault sie Megan/senic etc.

Your car doesn't have the inertia button so thats out. I'd get the car plugged into a diagnostics machine see what fault codes are being thrown up but check the throttle body and the tdc sensor see if there clean/working.

You can get a normal 197 for under £9k now used Ok its a bit steap for age ets but thats what some places are asking not what there getting.
