There not that bad if you absolutly kill them they will die but otherwsie there not as bad as people make out but there not the strongest point of the car.
Pump don't go when fitting new belts for £40 or so though is it worth the risk its one of those things you'll never know if you were right to save the money if it fails.
One thing to say is renault don't say it needs chnaging .
Aucx belt should be changed at 36k.
There been a few ITB,camed,head work been done before now which would be over 303hp.
Plus theres always the rumoured bigger cc ones which run even more.
Depends hwo much you want to do 1.6 bottom end head work cams different throttle body match up and full engine back manaifold and exhaust will get more power but for the price you could stick a 1.8 or 2.0 and get much more power and more reliabilty as its designed to run at that level.
You need to get the player very hot for it to give up.
I've managed it once and that was driving for 3 hours none stop with the heater on full blast and the vents open and the car full.
I know I'mn a bit keen but if you read the text it doe say there good cars just there are potential issues just like any other cars regardless of badge and cost for the cost there very good IMO.

Depends just because they make them meant nothing realy.
Each to there own but I'd always have the ontis over them there quieter and give both better ride and feeling well all round better tyres in all weather.

Angelworkds are doing some development work on a 1.6 at the moment.
Don't forget there are a laod of versions realy with VVT or noe and manaul bodies but at block level its ok realy.
