Yes you can, I use it and it works a treat - it doesn't melt. The packet is all messy, but I think it's called flange sealant (it is orange and sets like rubber). Perfect for sealing up exhausts!
Good work buddy. I saw mine being fitted and it wasn't a straightforward job. I'm also considering a Fastchip, just considering it though as I'm still to be convinced.

It's an interesting point. My 172 on 85k feels fine engine wise, but suspension needs replacing probably. I wonder why V8s seem to lose power with age whereas the sort of engines in RS Clios do not?
Working underneath the car on level ground, remove the plastic guard tray and there's a white plastic filling plug (looks like a wingnut) on the front side of gearbox (sort of in front and above of the gear lever connection). Unscrew it and then just dip your little finger in. If your can't feel...
I think low miles is only an issue for those into buying and selling cars and having the latest model. I'm just planning on keeping mine as it's a crackin' little car that suits me fine.
Anyway, I'm far to busy racing Audi quattros (story just posted up in road driving thread).
The 172's ain't that bad afterall (but I still miss the pace of a bike!).
I get a creaking noise when I turn the steering wheel, but I'm 95% confident it's the suspension top mounting bearing (the replacement part is £25 and I'll fit it when I've time). If you can do it yourself, try stripping it down - it isn't too difficult and you might see what's causing it.
Mine creaks too on one side when I turn slowly. I'm sure it's the suspension mount bearing at the top because it was a bit flakey the last time I took it apart (but I was too lazy to replace it). I'll know next week when I take it off again and fit a new mounting. The cost is £25, I've sourced a...
Sounds good. What are we talking about though, is it silicon sealant like the clear stuff that squirts out of a tube usually used for sealing windows?
Thanks.

I've re-fitted my exhaust but it's blowing at the joint between the cat and the stainless steel cat-back section. I have replace the Renault metal gasket with a new OEM one, but it still blows and I've even tried plugging the gap with several gaskets!
Anyone know if it's possible to buy a...
Tony, the thing I found was that I had to fiddle about with it a bit so it felt really smooth when connected up again. Mine feels fine now, but it did take some messing about with before the pedal action felt really smooth. I compared mine with another 172 ph 1 before I replace the cable and...
I'm not convinced that there is a common ph1 172 problem of the Throttle Body spring becoming baggy. I nearly bought a new TB because my revs wouldn't drop down, but then I just changed the cable (it had been changed 3 months before and was fine until I messed about with it) and I carefully...
This has been covered sooooooooooooooo many times before. Do a search and you'll see that all you need to do is replace the throttle cable at a grand cost of £18 approx. I believe that 9 times out of 10 this will sort out the problem. I've put a guide showing how to do it in the guides section...
