This is the OSI model, networking in general fits into this model. TCP/IP is just a protocol as is IS-IS, RIP, FTP, ICMP etc. some protocols fit into multiple layers, some only deal with one layer.
For if you are using a ftp client, it will probably go through all 7 layers before it leaves your...
The most lighweight AV I have found was Linux ;) can't get much lighter than that :P
If you insist on sticking with windows though check out F-Secure CS 9.0 it went through a bloat stage as well but its now pretty lightweight and unobtrusive.
Sounds like the card, you should have tested the drives independently before wiping them would have saved you starting from scratch.
It's common for more than one drive to go within a short period of the others as they tend to be bought/brought online at the same time and are the same brand...
Ye, my panny has been used for the PS3 for over a year.. no probs at all and no screen retention/burn. I Also use it as a computer monitor (lots of static stuff) and had no probs at all.
Just placed an order with my Dell account manager for some new laptops.
2 of them will be delivered in the new year and a less customised one should be here before the 23rd.
If you get a fasttrack one you should get it in time.. otherwise no.
What speed is your internet connection ? the fastest is 50mbit by virgin just now.. and if you have that then I would agree your downloads would suffer, but if your not even on 20mbit then G will be more than sufficient.
What you are suggesting will work just fine.. but I wouldnt suggest it TBH.. you should really test any updated packages before you deploy them to a live server.
^^ it's true that packet tracer is not full fledged, but it's good if you're trying to plan a network and do some testing.
No replacement for doing it hands on though.
I am using packettracer which is part of my CCNA course.. only deals with cisco stuff of course but you can build massive networks with it.
Very good for learning about cisco stuff.
Well since my last post most of my niggles have now been fixed.. video's are 16:9 and fill the screen properly now, menu navigation is much snappier, the selection of video's is constantly updated..
Love it :D
Re: What anti-virus?
I use a great anti virus product that doesn't add any overhead to your operating system and actually makes your system really stable and even makes it super quick and really responsive ! and its FREE !!
It called Linux. :D
I don't get it ? other than configuring the 2620xm's voip data onto a vlan and maybe setting some QOS stuff there is nothing else to 'buy' except the voip phones of course ;)
Cost per router about £1500 ish ? you didn't say what switches your using though ?
Ye, there could by lots of things causing it.. make a list of possibilites from the client to the disembarcation point of your network. Then go through them..
Start with the easiest first ;)
If you type the ip address of the web server in does it still take ages ? if so then its not the DNS servers.
Try wireshark and filter by HTTP requests for the rest. It probably is your proxy though, try bypassing it and see if its still slow as well.
The Netgear was about £120 but was worth the money.. i was sick of messing around with cheaper routers.. even the Linksys I had before that wasn't up to the job ! Although I had a wrt54g with DDR-WRT firmware installed and that was very good and rock solid as well but was only 802.11g and...
I did quite a bit of research into this and in the end I went for the NETGEAR RangeMax Dual Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router WNDR3
It rocks ! 2.4 and 5ghz, Gigabit on LAN and WAN, dual SSID's with guest networks, traffic metering etc.. it's a quality bit of kit !
Home isnt that great hardly go on it.. but the rest of PSN is fine.. not as polished as XBL though. The counter argument to that was its free but if that changes then I would expect a big improvement !
Bought this game and MW2 but not yet had a chance to play either.. still playing Fallout3 !
So its not as good as Fallout 3 but still a decent game ? I just liked the idea of a coop being able to jump in and out throughout the game.
