Yes but your relying solely on ram effect to push the air right along the pipe and ram dosent occur to something silly like 130 mph
Say if it was a short CAF pointing up it would just be a case of the air blowing in to what ever direction and feeding the filter
Respect for trying something new and until its been RR'd know one will know but first impressions of that CAF is the air has to A, travel quit a distance to what it would normally and B, go back along its self in a unnatural looking direction in relation to airflow direction
Aye probably because you were leaning off due to far improved air flow and now youve restricted it back again the fuelings returned to a more balanced level hence the difference in performance.
You took your airbox off, had basically just a open TB and had the car mapped that way just to ''simulate''?? Car fully mapped with no airbox on??
Sorry matey, i dont belive one word of it because it takes at least a hour plus to map specific (non generic), had mine done and it took roughly...
Yeah but your map will have been all over the shop as there was zero restriction and god knows what tempreture airflow compared to when the airbox was on. If youd a had it mapped with no airbox then it might have been a different story.
Also that test dosent gauge which filters are more /...
LOL
What does the RS Tuner raise the limiter to ??
Im running a pmurray ecu map with raised limiter to 7800 and it'll pull 70 in 2nd for example. Dont often take it to the rev limit area unless im on the quarter
Yeah it does but it also backs up the theory that Vipers arnt as crap as some folk make out in terms of performance and temps vs the airbox
Thing is, no two cars are the same plus it all depends on how folk set a IK up, ie has it been mapped? is it in conjunction with other mods? have they...
Airbox is crap, how many times ...... :clown: :quiet:
If you dont belive me theres a test with open IK vs Airbox vs Viper in one of the Ford mags that confirms it also.
Viper is better than the air box with panel, proven
Can see the advantage of a tuning box and there alright for a lot of applications but i prefer to take it to someone who knows their trade. Maybe im old 'skool' lol
Iv never seen or heard of one cracking the 13's on a N/A non ITB set up and with no NOS but there might be one somewhere. Its certainly not common place. The 'quick ones' are usually very low 14's from what iv read on here
Might be worth a new thread to see ;)
^^some good points there but its not a case of 'wasting money' its a case of a lot of £££ has to be spent for the gains vs the likes of Turbo application.
If say you consider a CTR new cost a good 3k premium over the cost of a new 172, take the 3k difference and mod your Clio, you'll have a...
14.2's not 13's :)
Sure there was some sort of thrash a while back on these very pages and not even the TB'd up F4R's could get into the 13's where in contrast the hybrids did with ease
Here's a picture. Not sure how many Cup racer teams used this set up but this is one of the Palmersport race cars running 185 bhp.
Quickest N/A set up cars i was meaning when i said quickest ones. Non of the 'quickest' ones on here use stock airboxes from what iv seen. Airboxes are for...
Only reason why Renault changed between the square and the cylinder type air boxes was due to emissions. Had nothing what so ever to do with the square box 'being better'.
Well actually as already mentioned there are a few that have bolter the IK straight off the TB!. Not a clue what position...
Iv not done a U-turn or anything bud lol
Most folk do the ph1 airbox mod because their just following a trend on here and because folk have got it into their heads that because its black and looks like a Maxogen, it must perform like a Maxogen. Inlet pipe thing into the corner is a far better...
Why is the ph2 square box a better design in your opinion??
Cup racers used a open induction kit no matter where it was in the engine, thats the point, so your point blank argument to dismiss IK's has fallen at the first hurdle. :o
Standard feeds on the air box design are restrictive...
Why in that case do 99% of folk on here rave about the ph1 172 airbox when the later one, a different style and square ''should'' be better because it was re-designed and newer, if your going by the development theory side of the argument?
Why do the Cup racers use of used to use a open IK...
You lot should have a look at this months Performance Ford mag (might be Fast Ford)
They did a tempreture test with a open K&N, a Viper with connected air feed and a Airbox with panel filter
Viper was the winner with a tempreture a whole 13 degree less than the Standard air box and panel...
I use it on my 172 and its fine
Mobil 1 is a lot cheaper from a local Motor Factors store than Opie Oils.
I paid 36 quid from TMS a few weeks back for 5 litres
Are you sure this isnt the last owner who's spilt some oil when filling up or left the filler cap off then realised and replaced ? The former is very easy to do on these.
Pretty sure if oil from a Head Gasket problem had got so bad to be sitting on the recesses on top of the rocker it would...
