The track is down to the wheels IIRC, unlike on the Williams where the whole set-up was different from the 16V.
Edit: I am wrong!

I used to do huge essays on things to look out for on a 16V/Williams, so look back a few years on my name with the search function (if you can).
Overall, the best possible advice is to try and buy from a long-term owner and Cliosporter. There are plenty of Valver owners who spare no money...
As long as you let the car idle briefly before and after your journey (oil to turbo) and dont give it welly until youve warmed it up, Id say youd be fine in terms of turbo and engine longevity.
Cant comment authoritatively on injectors, but I hear decent quality fuel helps and the odd Redex...
That idea about a mini amp sounds good.
I way prefer the standard look all round the car (see my old cars) and even went to the effort of finding an original Williams 3 tape deck and door bottom speakers to keep my Williams 1 looking original but having a little extra!
How much would I...
Im on my 4th Clio now (3 Mk1s, 1 Mk2).
In between the 1.2, 16V, Williams and now my Ph2 172 I had a Fiat Coupe 20V Turbo. I really missed the practicality, handling, economy and unlikeliness of the hot Clios, despite the raw speed and style of the Coupe. It was all topped off when my other...
Just to add that I averaged 40.8mpg in the 172 today, being mixed motorway and A-road with an urban start and finish. I get just over 50mpg in my mums Dynamique on the same route. Can be done!
There are two versions: 137bhp and 180bhp.
A member called Rhys used to have the original 137bhp version and thought that it absolutely sucked compared to the hot Clios. The motoring press arent that fond of them either. Shame really, when you consider what pedigree Peugeot hot hatches have...
The only real way to stop it happening to you again, or to someone else, is to get them caught by the Police.
Getting into a messy and violent conflict with four people who are not motivated in any way to make sure you come out ok is not a good idea. Just be vigilant and phone the Police...
A genuine Williams F7R (as opposed to one fitted to a Megane/Spider/retro-fitted to a Valver) will have a tubular steel manifold, which appears thinner than the Valvers cast alloy one.
Other than that, theres pretty much no way to tell by looking.
Edde - I respect your views a lot, but the mpg figure from your 1.2 experience is very low! Both my other halfs 1.2 8v and my mums 1.2 16v average in the 45-55mpg region (they dont drive that carefully either!).
My 172, 16V and Williams have all averaged better than 32mpg - even given "fun"...
Ive done a few thousand miles in my mums 1.2 16v Dynamique since it was bought back in summer 2004. In fact, I drove it for 500 miles from 7 miles on the clock lol!
The main thing is that the 1.2 16v Dynamiques are extremely competitively priced by Renault with their offers. My parents...
Ahh - that would make sense. The Authentique came with some silver number plate surrounds (now removed lol!), which suggests it may have been owned by the sort of person who would have also fitted a different stereo.
Just been out and there are definitely some decent looking speakers in the...
My Ph2 172 has what I assume is a 4 x 22w head unit and six speakers. I know that the 182 has a 4 x 40w head unit, but my 172s set-up seems identical to my mums Dynamiques set up (which I know is the 4 x 22w). Its also got the optional 6-CD stacker.
Im not keen to lose the "standard" look of...
Excellent. Thats at least the third person I know whos gone from a Cup to a Williams!
Youll love it. Itll require more care and youll never want to let it get dirty, but youll love it!
^^^^ You have a 16V right?
The Williams wont do 60 in 2nd without a chip to raise the limiter. Thats why the 0-60 looks similar to the Valver. There are some reports of freak ones that do all sorts of speeds in each gear, but my first post is what youd find from a genuine factory-fresh...
It wont do 60 in 2nd.
The F7R lump revs to a lower limit, so effectively the gears are shorter than a 16V (apart from 5th, which is a taller cog).
From recollection:
1st 37mph
2nd 57 mph
3rd 85 mph
4th 105 mph
5th 134 mph
Ive owned a mint Williams and have recently picked up a Ph2 172. Theyre actually quite similar cars behind the wheel in terms of character, but obviously the 172 has a lot more toys and seems as if itll wear the miles better (cosmetically at least).
Owning a Williams was a real pleasure, but...
Other way around of course for me, but from my recollections of Williams ownership and driving over the same roads it would seem that the Willy is similar in driving character to the 172.
Theres the same low-rev torque and pull all the way to the red-line (lower in the Willy of course). I...
