My friends are all gutted that Ive sold my Fiat Coupe 20V Turbo and am getting a "Clio". They know that its going to be a good one because Ive had a 16V and a Williams in the past. But theres still that stigma and a Clio, apart from a V6, isnt going to be as much a talking point as something...
Having been to see a Ph1 172 recently, I was taken aback at the interior - particularly the dash.
My other half and my mum both have MK2 Ph2 non-Renaultsport Clios and their interiors are way nicer (aside from the leather of course).
I personally wouldnt change from a Ph1 172 to a Ph2...
If you pick an lovely car that just need an annual MoT, insurance, tax and petrol putting in it - then MPG is obviously going to make a difference.
IMO with any 10+ year old car like a Clio 1.4 RT, youre going to have to buy wisely and with some expertise in order to keep costs as simple as...
Hi Henry
Im also in the market for a 172/Cup/182/Cup.
Im not as tall as you, but from my experiences in my mums and my other halfs Mk2 Clios (mums has same seats as Cup), theres more headroom than in the Mk1s.
Hope all is well
Ben
I had three Mk1 Clios in a row (1.2 for three years, 16V for two and a Williams for one year).
At the time I sold the Williams it felt like Id been driving the same car for 6 years! I regret selling it now, however practical it was at the time.
You wont regret going from a 16V to a...
My other half recently bought a 51 pre-reg Authentique 1.2. My mum recently bought an 04 registered Dynamique 1.2 16V.
I drive both quite a lot and would say that you may as well buy a Dynamique as they were only £500 more second hand when my other half was buying her Authentique. Thing is...
Youll have three years warranty with any new Renault - and can extend it if needs be to five years.
Ive owned plenty of older cars and, without question, the best form of reliability is to own the car yourself for a long period! Things that go wrong once rarely do so again.
Actually, IIRC...
The Autocar test got 0-100 in 24 secs for the Valver (0-60 in 7.3) back in 92. For the Willy they got 20 secs to the ton and 7.3 to 60 as well I recall.
2Lives 14.5 secs to the ton would put his Willy on a par with a standard Fiat Coupe 20V Turbo - and about 3-5 secs quicker than 225bhp TTs...
Autocar does its own tests, so when they get 6.3 to 60 and so on they quote that.
Id imagine that the performance difference is slim in the extreme. Personally, Id choose the Cup because I dont want a leather interior.
We should all be careful of our attitudes on the road, no matter what they be.
My other half is very timid on the road and drives in a way that a lot of "pushy" people seem to find annoying (i.e. cautious, slow etc.). Fact is, even though she passed he test 8 years ago shes only just started...
I sold No. 123 for £5,250 and think I might have got more if I were the type of person to hold on for the best price. It was on 63k and was spotless in all regards.
Id pay that again...possibly more to get the right example.
For many people, the equation will be that they see an "expensive"...
Another "says it all story":
My other halfs father is a bona-fide, signet ring-wearing, corduroy trousers, trout-fishing, fine wine connoisseur of the first order. He likes his cars green in colour and to have enough space so that he can carry his latest fish catch to the smokery. Driving...
Has anyone thought that someone like me doesnt want a leather interior? I thank the Renault gods that theyre making the 182 Cup because my lady hates leather and I wouldnt be allowed a 182 in the future unless the Cup existed!
For a hot hatch - and by that I mean hot hatch alone - then it has to be a 182 (even were it not at least a third cheaper).
People always think that the Golf will be better to own, but not if my experiences with a Mk4 GTi are anything to go by. VWs are NOT superior in terms of build or...
LOL!
Im starting to feel a bit old now as I seem to have seen this debate hundreds of times! Ive owned mint examples of both...
My Valver was a ticket to ride in the world of "drivers" cars. Hot hatches dont get that much more able after this point - people argue all day about comments...
The guy clearly isnt an expert cars or the Williams and seems to be selling for the wrong reasons, i.e. "its too fast" etc.
Not the seller Id chose, but its got to be worth a look - although not a bid until its been seen in the flesh IMO. Williams buyers beware - you want to see history IMO.
... and me. Loved my hot Clios. RIP Clio Williams - finest hot hatch ever.
I was going to make a return (in the form of a 182) because I get lease car subsidy payments now from work, but didnt have the heart to sell my Coup 20VT.
I had one of those new 3.2 A3s on my rear bumper (pet hate!) a few months ago on the motorway... hed chosen totally the wrong environment to take on the might of the Fiat 20VT!!
Absolutely gutted was the only way to describe the look of the guy as I repeatedly hammered the poo out of the A3...
In four years of 16V and Williams ownership, the best I got was 400 miles to a tank (55mph all the way from Wales to Edinburgh) and the worst was about 250 miles (ragging it in the Williams).
I think the average was about 35mpg in the 16V and 33mpg in the Williams.
Definitely fogs - and as such are illegal to use unless visibility drops below 50-100 meters (cant remember which).
You may think that they dont dazzle and perhaps they dont looking straight ahead on the flat, but on cambers and angles they do blind as they are very poweful lights.
How many...
Sounds like a Valver with Phase2 side strips on it. The Phase1 side strips dont have the model designation on them.
I think youre on fairly safe ground because the one thing you can get a private seller to refund on by law is if you are mis-sold something that doesnt match their description...
