1. Clio Williams - best balance of power and ability out there (honorary mention to 16V)
2. Lancia Delta Integrale Evo - err...
3. Peugeot 205 GTi - 1.6 or 1.9... you decide
4. Renault Clio V6 - for the balls to produce something this crazy
5. Lotus Sunbeam - old timer
Personal leasing is good because it means that youre subsidising the initial depreciation of the car - not the whole price. Obviously you dont end up with a car at the end, but there are some excellent deals at the minute in the £240pcm range.
Doesnt the handbook have the locking wheelnut key code? If this is right then you could order a new key for about £5.
The code for my old Williams vintage locking wheelnuts was right and Renault got me out of a pickle in 2004 by still stocking the keys!
Im ashamed to say that I sold one of the mintest Williams out there - No. 123. Brilliant, loveable, talented car.
The Fiat Coupe 20V Turbo I replaced it with is subjectively "as fast" and "faster" (yes, even round corners), but its not actually as much as youd think and the envolvement isnt...
PM me the details Adam. I cant see me shifting the Coupe until the spring, mainly because I have accountancy exams over the next few weeks - and its no time to be selling a car!
Good to hear youre enjoying the Cup Aaron - its a firm favourite for me because of the non-leather interior.
Coming back to a hot hatch because I live right in the city centre now. Although I have a big yard at the back of the house, the Coupes undertray fouls three of four possibly entrances to the alleyway and its a beast to park with that long nose!
So, a hot hatch it is... and...
Probably like Strombas old one - i.e. was kept in a showroom or on trade plates for a few years before being registered.
You cant make a car appear newer than it is with a private plate.
Ive decided to sell my Fiat Coupe 20VT and move back to the Clio fold. It was just agony picking up my other halfs new Clio from Renault a month or two ago and seeing a brand new 182 in the flesh!
Anyhow, I will be selling the Coupe when the market picks up in the spring and then looking for...
Theres a rubber sleeve around the cloumn where it slots into the UJ. Over time this degrades and hence the column turns in the UJ before it turns on the rack itself, which causes the loss of precision.
Some people have welded it, although others say this compromises the safety feature of...
This is a TRUE story that some of you may find extremely annoying!
My mate has a Honda S2000 and a bit of a love of speed. One night after a long motorway journey, he was going along a familiar dual carriageway when a car started following him closely out of a roundabout. He sped up a little...
Never boot it until the oil has had time to warm up. The Mk1 16V and Williams had an oil temperature gauge that was really useful (the oil temp on them old F7 blocks took ages to warm up).
On a car without an oil temperature gauge, I wait until the coolant is at normal operating temperature...
Like with your stereo on max volume, full performance is something rarely used in a car. As an ex-owner of both cars, my main addition to the debate is that the Willy was IMO the superior "pootling" car: the damping and comfort were great despite the bespoke harsh suspension rates and 85% of...
I had a 16V and then a mint Williams. You have to look carefully for the best, but they do exist. I was lucky - the guy I bought mine from phoned me up in response to a post on RSC... I just thought it was too good to be true!
Theres a fair difference between the 16V and the Willy - not...
Ive owned a Williams since these old posts (two years ago!), when I had a Valver. In retrospect, I think most of my observations were right.
The thing I was missing - and I think most people still miss - is that a car like the Williams isnt only about straight line speed. I still think my...

Id say £3k is as much as it would get unless someone really wanted it. Without the work done it would be more like £2k.
Cars sold through this site go for less than they seem to on Autotrader and the local freeads though.
Just thought Id post this link as its one of the most "accurate" Ive seen (only for FWD):

The Clio Willy gets the sort of figures it deserves and the Fiat 20VT is the fastest there!
No.0123 fetched just over a third of what Stromba got for No.0002. It was probably one of the most mint and original bar No.0002 and even had a novelty number! I miss it every day. :(
Someone hit the nail on the head when they said about £15k being a luxury price. The person who bought it...
I used to be in Bristol Uni mate (and own a 16V and then a Williams).
If you want to have it sorted by a garage and keep it local, then theres no place better than Renatec in Brislington - just off the Bath Road, next to HTV. Theyre on 0117 977 7789. Lyndon is the boss and is a top man. Its...
I think most of the original allocation of Williams 1s sold out before the road tests were even done! I recall that Renault increased the RHD supply from 300 to 390 to help matters.
Theres a mass of history about the Williams that I used to write about all the time but have lost the will a bit since I sold No.123 a few months back.
I really cant recommend any other hot hatch over the Willy in terms of driving. Whereas most hot hatches are talked about in terms of each...
