No - its probably not the oil. It sounds like its a coincidental problem.
What will make your car idle oddly would most likely be down to ignition, induction or fueling.
Known idle problems on the 16v/Willy are usually to do with the idle-speed control valve or the throttle...
You might be quite satisfied just with new original spec shocks - especially as the 5 will have good shocks on there anyway (assuming its a GT Turbo).
BenRs 16v just has lowering springs and a torsion bar adjustment with new shocks. He says its fine. Could be worthwhile before you go for...
..and here are some proper fat arches!:

Notice how the bulge looks really weeny too!
Max Power is a front for a publishing company that has spotted a niche in the market to make money out of. They are not some revolutionary band of crazy car lovers that want to give you the best info out of the bottom of their hearts! Theyve joined up with Haynes not in the interests of...
Heres another pic of the 16v/Willy bulge:

Looks massive from the left hand side of the pic and smaller on the right hand side!! Its all to do with pictures and light!!
The purpose of the bonnet bulge is to provide clearance for the inlet manifold of the F7P/R (16v/Willy) engine - if you closed a regular Clio bonnet on the engine it would foul it. So - the bonnet bulge isnt cosmetic.
Now, all the Clio 16vs used the same engine with the same inlet manifold...
Rubbish!!! Moreover, both those cars are 16vs - the top one is Aarons and the second has cream leather.
Max Power are really wrong there. They also give the 0-60 of the 16v as 8.6 - its 7.7, the same as the Willy!! Bunch of muppets. Never trust anything they say.
No, the Williams does not have a bigger bulge. Where on earth did you hear that??! :o
The exterior is totally identical to the 16v - bar the wheels, colour and badges.
Im no Willy expert, but I was always under the impression that the Williams and Williams 2 came in a darker blue and the Willy 3 came in some sort of lighter (pearlescent??) blue.
People always ask if the leather is boiling in the summer, but its just fine. No difference at all, but then again I do like driving with all my windows open.
This isnt the best pic, but its the only one I have! (with thanks to Daz). Dervs 16v on the left and MatBrowns ex-16v on the right.

Try painting them silver if you want that "just left the showroom" look.
Ive done all my callipers silver and even the rear disc protectors. You have to clean/re-paint them every so often though.
I worked on the bikes for four years (part time A-levels/beginning of Uni). I used to go on car parts sometimes too.
Its weird as you either have proper car/bike Yodas, or complete idiots. Nopthing in between! I was a Yoda of course!!
If youve got a Mk2 Phase1 172 Exclusive, then DO NOT get rid of the wheels. Youve got the rarest Clio ever in your hands (apart from some of the bizarre colour options)! Only 172 ever made: less than each of the Williams 1, 2 & 3.
People like me will pay a premium for it in years to come...
Hello! Welcome. Mines a black Phase2 as well:
Keep the Phase2 wheels on the car!

Yeah, thats right. The 16s were a 7.5j and werent very light (crappy "Motorsport" Team Dynamics things). The Phase2 are proper Speedline wheels ("Vega" I think) and are only 6.5j, so weigh a lot less.
With the 195/50/15 rubber, theyve got more sidewall to be softer on the limit and the...
The basics are that the IK cant draw enough cool air to make the principle of an IK work as well as it should. It may even lose power/torque at lower revs. But hey, its an RT and that shouldnt matter too much.
I cant see this vid as my WMP wont show it, but if its then new 190bhp T-Sport then its really no contender for the 172/CTR pack. It may have a good headline power figure, but it makes about the same torque as a Clio 16v but at even higher revs!
It should, in theory, be a fast car. But just...
