The "GTi" used the 150bhp 2.0 16v from the Golf Mk3 GTi 16v. This car has stats similar to the Clio 16v - mid 7s to 60 and 130mph top whack.
The Cupra editions use variants of the VAG Groups 5-cylinder 1.8 20v Turbo unit (in various states of tune from 150bhp to 180bhp). I would have...
I reckon that this baby is the way to go:

Ok, so this one is a gross colour, but you cant argue with the proper rally pedigree - as yet unmatched in its six consecutive years of winning the WRC.
This, and the Clio V6, are the only cars Id...
Well, youll have to wait for a couple of years if you want Mk3 ones!
I presume you mean Mk2, Phase2 ones - in which case your local Renault dealer will be happy to help.
I reckon if you use the base engine (whether thats the 1764 or the 1998), you could do a TB conversion for about £3000. I couldnt tell you whether that would make as much power as a low-boost BB turbo conversion, but it sure would make at least half as much extra power for half the cost.
Ive only been working for Citizens Advice part time while I do my Masters. Im starting a graduate job as a financial manager (accountant:oops:) with the NHS in a few months. I was sitting on an offer of a city-type job with a Bank, but am taking the NHS one, even though its 60% less pay...
I reckon there must be about 5,000 16vs. The hot hatch wasnt as popular as it is now back in the early 1990s - insurance was a nightmare and most hot hatchches died off (Fiesta RS Turbo only on market for 18 months, no 205 GTi replacement for a few years etc).
I dont think I could ever...
All the 2.0s fitted to the Rover 200 were the 136bhp T-series, which was in use in the late Mk2 Rover 800 from 1989 and was later found in the Rover 200 3-door, Rover 200 Coupe, Rover 200 Mk1 5 door and Rover 400 Mk1 & Mk2.
Ive never heard of an Mi16 engine - apart from the Peugeot/Citroen...
The Rover 2.0 is definitely a T-series and its all Rovers own work (as the K-series is).
Theyre actually a very good range of engines and won numerous awards of the sort that Honda is now winning, back in the early 1990s. Very few engines, contrary to popular belief, are Honda engines...
I prefer the look of the Phase1 V6 as it has the grille that the Phase2 Mk1 Clios had and looks a bit more "family". Apart from that, hopefully the "superior" Phase2 V6 will reduce Phase1 V6 residuals and I will be able to afford one!
My 16v was a mare when I first got it, but has been fine since I got on top of it all. 99k miles and runs better than an atomic clock.
Rhys - if a wheel bearing went in 4k miles then it wasnt fitted properly. Same happened to me too. Its got to be done with a proper press. My mechanic...
Dont say anything to him thatll give the game away... just let him carry on thinking that hes got 190bhp. I have no doubt whatsoever that you will thrash him. The 220 is in the Mk1 RSi performance bracket. No trouble.
Dont point that out, otherwise you might talk yourself out of a very...
If you do go for a Valver, then Id prepare to either hunt for ages for one as mint as you want it, or be willing to make a "project" out of a less than mint one. Theyre worth every penny though.
Ive had this happen too - was there a car going in the opposite direction on the other carriagway?? Theyre not direction sensitive and Ive set one or two off from the other side of the road
Had a very, very close race with a Fiesta RS Turbo in Cardiff the other night. Big respect - even the handling was good: coilovers?? Have just posted on Fiestaturbo.com to see if its anyone there and to find out the spec. I did just beat it though! ;)
Yeah, cheers. I was looking at the ZX Volcane, which is more or less identical to the petrol ones bar the engine, but they cost lots to insure. I prefer the diesel engines as they seem to take the miles better. At the price Im paying, the mileages will be over 100k. The Citroen AX 1.5d did...
Rhys - the 205 diesel is right up there on my list! My current favourites are the ZX 1.9d (possibly a TD), AX 1.5d, 106 1.5d and 205 1.8d. I recall that there were some late 205 diesels with the GTi bodykit and suspension, which cost no more to insure!
Looks mint.
Can you rent a cheap garage somewhere? If you love it enough then youll take it with you! Or leave it at home? That house looks like its got plenty of space for a car to be left under a cover or something.
Ive got a job starting in September which will involve 40 miles a day...
