The magazine figures would suggest that the Astra would just pip a 16v in acceleration terms. Youre looking at mid 7s to 60 to 60 for the 150bhp GSi and about that too for the 16v.
The GSi red-top engine has 150bhp and hence a very similar power-to-weight as the 16v. The 16v has 13bhp...
Im having my Phase 2 16v wheels refurbished at the moment. The inside and outside have been shotblasted and then both sides of the wheels will be painted.
Its costing me £200 + VAT, which is not cheap. But to buy some equivalent quality wheels would definitely cost in excess of £100 per...
Mate - that looks FANTASTIC! Just the way I like it in every respect!
The 16v looks absolutely fantastic just left alone on the outside, bar an exhaust and a bit of lowering. I had mine lowered at Renatec in Bristol as well, but the back is definitely not as low (I asked for that as I...
I see. So Ill never be able to get a really good idea of what my car is running in its current state?
One more question - when my head spat out a spark plug, I had the thread enlarged and then a device stuck in between the head and the plug to hold the plug in. I suspect that the top of the...
Cheers Mat. Im pretty certain I will have my wheels by then, but I just dont want to tempt fate. They were sent away to be shotblasted a couple of weeks ago, but the gritting machine bust and they couldnt do them. Im not sure, but I think theyre back at the bodyshop now and ready to be...
Yup! Am looking forward to getting it on the rollers and seeing what it makes. What sort of at the wheels figure should I be looking for? Ive just had a look at the BB Tuning RR results and was wondering what sort of power loss would I be looking at? 16vs seem to lose 15-25%.
Whoa! When was that test date?? Are they really for the 172??!:o
I have in front of me the November 1991 in-depth test of the 16v. It gives
0-60 as 7.3
0-100 in 22.8
30-70 in 7.1
50-70 in 8.9
Apart from the 0-100, those figures are radically different!
Im not saying that...
If its a Mk1, Phase 1 then you can put on a Phase carbon/reflective boot trim where the badges are supposed to be. But if its a Phase 2 onwards, then there are holes behind the badges which would have to be filled.
Its not so bad on a Mk1 Clio as all it says is "Renault" and "Clio" on the...
16v_Matt: Ill be there! I still havent got my wheels back on the car yet (was expecting them this weekend at latest!), but there will be WW3 if they say they cant have them by this weekend! So will definitely be there!
I think that actual entry is going to be very difficult to prevent - the car does after all have windows. Fitting a Cat 1 security system is probably the best thing you can do, along with a steering lock/snap-off steering wheel.
I bought my car with the mods already done to it and an engine dyno (not at wheels) power figure of 171.3bhp. Ive got the bill sat here in front of me and I can see that the majority of the bill (excluding the valves and sundries to correct a timing belt snap) is on labour. Thats because only...
The RSi is a good warm hatch if you consider it in isolation. It has decent urge from its 110bhp 1.8 8v engine and has sports trim, side skirts and alloys. It develops a similar amount of torque as the 16v, but at much lower revs - that doesnt make it as fast, but it does make it more relaxing...
Talking of wide-arch cars, why not a Delta Integrale? Has won the most rally champioships than any other car to date.
Homologation cars are the way to go!

I used to put the seats down and take my Cannondale apart, but it soon became apparent that this was going to damage the interior in the long run.
I bought myself a Thule system for about £150 all in - and Id recommend carrying the bike on the roof to anyone. On my old 1.2 it slowed the car...
Oh dear...cant you keep it? Youll get some cash for the Willy, but youll miss it, no matter how good your next car.
My 16v is still off the road (waiting for wheels as usual) so Ive been driving my parents cars. Theyre nice to drive, but I literally daydream about the induction roar and...
£16-20k is a hell of a lot of dosh in my books!
Im the sort of person that sees buying brand new cars as a pointless exercise unless you can avoid the depreciation or you want to keep it for a very long time. Yes, yes, I know - I also wear leather patches on the elbows of my tweed jacket...
The Clio Williams is closely based on the 16v, so theres not much more to check apart from the authenticity of the car itself (someone else will have to detail what to look for there.
Overall, Im of the opinion that Williams owners are of the demographic that look after their cars well...
We could all produce endless test figures to trump each previous set of figures...
...for my part Id like to add the 1991 Autocar test of the Clio 16v that gave it 0-60 in 7.3, 30-70 in 7.1 and *better figures* all round than both the (particulalry dodgy) 172 and 106 GTi tests...
But I know...
147bhp is a lot for a 1.3 litre engine. The standard engine is rated at 100bhp. Thats the equivalent of a 172 getting 260bhp from similar mods. Methinks not sir!
Ive heard that they dont respond well to the traditional breathing and chipping mods - and that advancing the ignition is the...
