You could get away with it very, very easily.
This is my 16v engine above...and this below is a Willy engine:

So theres basically no visual...
Other than those suggestions above, check the really obvious ones like tightness of the spark plugs and the condition of the HT leads/distributor. My car spat out a spark plug a few months ago, probably becuase I hadt tightened it to the correct torque - cost me £100 to have the car towed to a...
I dont know exactly why drilling your airbox is bad, as I say ask BenR, but I think its because it removes the benefit of a sealed induction system which gives consistent performance (maybe not a prob if Corsas airbox isnt sealed anyway).
The Fiesta RS is a different matter Im sure, although...
172man: I know it makes absolutely no sense on paper that a VTS/GTi should be as fast as a 172 - but until youve either come up against one or seen some videos youre not fully in the picture! :D
They do 0-60 in something like 8.5 secs and are only mildly fast in standard form.
When people see "Ford" and "Turbo" they think of great giant-slaying cars. Sadly, this isnt one of them. Good work though!
Not heard of it mate, but I do have a PBV. Because the car came with it, I couldnt say how much difference it makes (if at all), but I think it helps cars with modified cams idle better.
Oh, and BTW, watch out when you play with fuel lines. One loose one and you might look like that poor...
195/50/15 is a very, very popular tyre size and is usually the chapest size for "performance" tyres.
I currently have Yoko A539s. I dont rate them that much in the wet; in fact Ive had a few hairy moments, but Im still not sure if thats due to oil/high-power FWD/snap-tastic on limit...
Fuel prices are affected mainly by the commodity markets, in reaction to anticipated world events. Dealers will specualte against the possibility of fuel price fluctuations in securing supply for their customers at a later date - hedging in other words. If they anticipate fuel prices will be...
Hey Pete. Am coming home on Thursday or Friday to pick up my de-cat and airbox, but Im not sure that Ill be staying the night on either day yet. It all depends on when I get the wheels - if its Thursday then its all ok, but if its late Friday, then Ill have to leave it until Monday at least...
My car has been more or less standing since late November, nearly 3 months in all! Ive used it once or twice to take it to the bodyshop on a very short, 1/4 mile journey, but thats been it. Ive also started the car about once every ten days to keep the electics running through the winter...
Have e-mailed Mat.
I get my wheels back on either Thursday or Friday. If its Thursday, then I can go home and fit my de-cat and maybe my original airbox too. If its Friday then Ill be running it as the car is now.
She hasnt hit the road in anger since late November, so itll be...
Theres nothing wrong with the Mk1 1.8 RSi and I dont think many people would slate it. Its a nice high-spec car with enough poke to take it from 0-60 in 8.5 secs and on to 120mph. In my opinion, its a better crusier than the 16v due to having its torque at lower revs and its a softer riding...
Yes. As long as its a Mk1 phase 1 or 2 (91-96).
But you might want to get the wider arches, bigger bumpers and mechanical mods that go with it!
I saw a shed of a low-spec 1.2 yesterday complete with "Max" wheel trims, black bumpers and a 16v bonnet!!
People often have strong opinions based on their experiences.
I had a 5-door Citroen Xsara behind me once and it seemed to be keeping up with me fairly well, no matter how hard I tried. In fact, it seemed that the grin on the face of the driver would have to be surgically removed so happy...
Underestimate the VTS/106 GTi at your peril. Any 172/CTR destroying a "VTS" would in fact be destroying a VTR. Theyre slower in a straight line, but not by as much as wed all like to think! See Craggys videos.
The nut must be really bad as you can usually sort it out with only medium hassle. I used to have locking wheel nuts on any car I had, but theyre such shocking quality that I just dont use them now. Ive had many go wrong, mainly due to overtightening at a garage using a gun to tighten the...
If the exhaust knocking gets worse under load, it might be because the manifold to downpipe gasket is gone. The bigger bore never fits quite as well as the original, so also check the rear bend mounts as it comes over to the passenger side about 3/4 way along the car.
The vague handling...
Sounds like a badged up S16 or 2.0 XSi to me. Both are respectably quick, which would explain why the 172 didnt totally hammer the car. But they still arent as quick as the full-on GTi-6/Rallye. Much like a Mk1 1.8 RSi is to the 16v and Williams.

Great-gandson of the GT Turbo more like!
The Megane lump is a tuned version of the 165bhp 2.0 turbo in the Vel Satis, which is in itself a blown version of the 140bhp 2.0 found in the later Megane Coupe and Volvo S40 2.0.
Hopefully Renault will play on the turbo heritage a bit.
I would let someone I really trusted drive the car. Im insured 3rd party on other cars (like many with FC policies), so am very grateful to Lofty for trusting me in letting me drive his 2.0-converted 16v.
Bristol - but I dont think that the place Ive had my wheels done at will do them for other people. I use them a lot for other stuff and asked if theyd do them, to which they said "yes" although they dont normally.
It turned out to be a bit of a nightmare as first of all they had to send...
