Follow that http://www.rover100.co.ukwww.rover100.co.uk link above - it says 0-60 in "under 10 secs". Its actually a very resonably written site; I was expecting something like "the Rover 100 was easily the best hot hatch ever and even today a 1.1 slays 172s".
I dont think they have major power. People think "turbo" and envisage 200bhp, but I think they have less than 100bhp as standard - in fact 85bhp rings a bell.
The Clio 16v has higher gearing than the Willy (apart from 5th I think).
My mates non-chipped 16v does:
40 in 1st, 60 in 2nd, 90 in 3rd, 115 in 4th and about 130ish in top (thats not on the rev limit).
LOL! Im no street racing guru - ask Craggy about that! It took me ages to get my starting technique perfect, but then I rarely find anyone wants a traffic light grand prix.
Ive never timed mine, but Id hope its in the low sevens as the car is tuned.
Some people have got low 7s (including Autocar in 1991). But cars and conditions vary so I wouldnt worry too much. Goes to show that driving technique can net you speed gains without any dosh.:D
He he - its not standard under the bonnet. Just the way I like it.
The car came with some dark anthracite 16" wheels when I bought it. I thought they looked good for a while, but then saw the light and got hold of some tatty Phase 2s and had them refurbed. I reckon that as cars get older...
Just a couple of my Valver in its now perfect cosmetic state. I actually took loads of really good photos, but the disk I had them on packed in. These are what I could salvage (and one from Dazs collection). My baby was off the road from late November until last week. Hes called Holly...
The only VWs that have raced me have been a Mk3 GTi 16v and a Mk4 GTi 1.8 Turbo. Id far rather come up against a Mk1/2 GTi or a Mk3 VR6 as I respect these cars.
The Mk3 GTi 16v driver looked preplexed and couldnt seem to understand why a Clio was beating him away from the lights every time...
By a Porsche 944!
Ive never been so comprehensively beaten in the whole time Ive had my 16v. I overtook at about 70mph on a motorway and then saw him accelerate to keep up. I dropped to 4th and I put up a good show until I changed into 5th at *15mph (bloody aerodynamics!). As soon as I...
With the cat still on and an IK, the Mongoose warbles like a turbo flat four at low revs on open throttle. Sounds much better than my flatmates Devil system. I fitted a BB Tuning de-cat last week and that makes it sound very different.
The standard-fit alarm/immobiliser has the turn off key switch under the windscreen cowl pannel near to your fuses and washer bottle. Any over-ride key switch in the glovebox should be for an aftermarket system.
If youve had a new alternator, but the battery light is still flashing, then...
Carlos - one of the main areas that the Willy is different from the 16v is the suspension, but its not that much. Basically the Willy has a 34mm wider front track (created by using different offset wheels), lower wishbones from the 19 16v, different shocks all round and different front springs...
The timing belt is the cam belt. The one that does all the stuff like alternator etc is the auxillary drive belt (often called the fan belt, although the 16v has no fan belt).
Well theyre pretty heavy as they all have 4WD and the flat four 2.0 pumps out about 140bhp. Id say that with about 3-400kgs less than him and the same power you bloody well should have beaten him!
There are definitely some people on here who have had a Valver or Willy before a 172 - even some whove had a 172 and now a Willy!
I dont rate Evo, but they reckoned that the Willy handled better than the 172 in their mega hot hatch test where they crowned the Willy the best hot hatch ever...
The results were from 4th gear AFAIK.
And Matt: I didnt take the turning I was meant to! I eventually got onto the M5 but guess you must have put the pedal to the Wilton as I was giving it the Full George and didnt catch up!
Sammy - I live in Wales, but was on my way home through Gloucester after the weekend. If it helps, it was the A40 going West out of the town.
I dont know what the exact reg was, but I remember it being a "B" reg. It looks like the Toyota Supra RobFenn posted earlier. It was black and...
Ha ha very funny Ben! :( Im still pissed off at that time it spat out a spark plug and have a feeling it may be the reason for my only minor power advantage over other 16vs on the day. Im going to need a new head as the repair means that the plug just rotates in the head now and wont come...
