Well as 0-60 is considered a poor measurement of performance 0-100 the S3 is faster, in the low 16 secs I believe as standard for the 210bhp version. As much as I love the 172s and Cups as fast hatches, they are not in any invincible and there are many cars on the road capable of toasting them...
Had a similar discussion about this not long ago if youd won the lottery jackpot. I would get something that practical, doesnt stand out too much, be fast as f*** and fun to drive. It would either be a BMW M3 (E46) or a Porsche 996 C4S. Nothing too fancy and still drivable on Britains roads...
Well I dont remember seeing anything in the Renault brochures/press releases/mags etc that the Cup has a different ECU. From what Ive read its basically a stripped 172 with lower and wider track due to new wheels with wider offsets and thinner glass.
I would have thought the ECUs will work with the standard 172 as the engine is identical to the cup. Dont think it will work with the MK1 as they have a cable operated thottle as apposed to FBW throttle on the MK2s.
Elises come in various flavours. Most Elises on the road Ive seen are the standard Elise which has a 1.8 118bhp engine giving it a 164bhp/ton, which makes it comparible with Williams/172s although the Clios will be better higher up the rev range due to better power/torque. However, if you come...

Nah, I test drove the Alfa before I bought the Fiat. Driving position is terrible. Basically yous have to have a gorilla-esk phisique, ie long arms and short legs to get comfortable. Still its a very good handling car, but I felt the Fiat was slightly better what with the front diff as well...

Fiat coupe 20V Turbo LE are pretty good for bang per buck. 220bhp, 227lb/ft, Cross drilled brembo brakes, 6 speed, sparco strut brace, Leather Recaro seats and trim, Air Con, can easily seat 4 adaults, large boot, passenger and driver airbags, 10 or 6 disk cd changer and Viscous front diff all...

There is a ST170 that terrorises Watford. Whoever it is drives like a loon. Ive seen it 3 or 4 times and each time its always up someones arse trying to push others along the road. Well I happened to be at a set of lights going on to a dual carriage way when it pulled up. Not sure if its the...

Topgear did a test on 172, ITR and Racing Puma. On the road the 172 wins, on the track the FRP was 2 secs quicker than 172 and the ITR with the 172 about half a second quicker as tested by tiff needles.
What gear are people starting from? There was a similar topic on the EVO forum a while back. I posted an average 40-70 time of 3.6 seconds when I had my Fiat Coupe 20V turbo starting in 2nd gear. Must try it in my standard 172 when I get a chance.

Does anyone know who does an cat back system exhaust that remains hidden like the standard Renault one? Its just that IMO exhausts that "hang" off the rear bumper of the Clio doesnt look right as there is no indentation in the rear bumper for the exhaust to sit in. I dont want to have to cut...
the Golf VR6 has about 170-180 bhp and is a lot heavier than the Clio and though the VR6 has more torque the Clio will still have the edge, though eventually the VR6 will go pass due to higher top end.

Why not do a gull-wing conversion ala Merc instead? eg.

I think the CSL is stripped out version of the M3 with new induction and tweaks to engine, suspension and exhaust.
Zondas, Maclaren F1, Ferrari Enzo, lamborghinis etc are all great cars but not really drivable on Britains roads. You couldnt go to Tescos in one, theyre too wide for the...
In the manual, Renault recommends 98RON fuel which I believe what Optimax is. Ive ran my car with Optimax since new so I cant say whether theres and improvement or not.
Give me an M3 any day of the week.
In fact if money was no object the one car I would have would be the new M3CSL or a Porsche 996 Carrera 4S (need to test drive both to decide..yeah in my dreams!!).
Both have 4 seats, big boot, as fast as youll ever want it and will likely last almost a...

Infact if money was no object and I could only have one car to do everything, I would buy either a new M3CSL or a Porsche 996 Carrera 4S, Dont care if its cool or uncool..
Both
Mikeherts hit the nail on the head. The CTR is a very good car, Ive not driven one, so I can only go by what I read. I was in a similar situation last year, but with MY £15k (actually cost me £12500), bangs per buck was a major consideration (including cheaper insurance for the Clio) in...
