I guess that outright/absolute performance isn't the goal, as much as smooth, creamy V6 power delivery in such a tiny car. I find that quite appealing :-) Although I've not driven a Turbo 172, I have to confess that I'm not a huge fan of Turbo-charged four pots. Oddly - and stupidly - I'd...
cheers chaps.
yeah, I was a bit concerned by the issues of understeer and tyre life - I was going to cross those bridges later. I guess the fact that no-one's done it (yet) suggests it's not such a smart idea after all. Pity...I'd love the idea of a creamy V6-engined FWD 172! :-)

Hey troops,
Hope you're all well.
Ok, ignore the logic and practicalities for a second, but which of Renault's V6 engines would fit under the bonnet of a 172? I've never been hugely keen on the rwd Clio V6, but I find the idea of a 172 with a V6 wedged under the bonnet strangely appealing...
happend to me earlier this year in the winter - noticed/felt that the roads were v. slippery, so I went even slower. Got to a roundabout I've turn right at every day for the last six years, turned in slow and gentle, and suddenly, the steering went totally light. I backed off and the rear...
yep, just found it ----> here:
"the wipers on the renault clio are incorrectly set up on cars for the British market. This is not because we have muderous intentions for you battle-winning les roast beefs, but it's part of our safety policy designed to Keep You On Your Toes in your...
"After using the air conditioning system, a small puddle of water may form beneath the car. iT is just condensation and you do not need to be worried about it. if it's a big puddle of water, then it's likely to water from your headlight washer jets (see: 'leaking'), and that is something to...
ok, that's great - thanks very much. I think I've now grasped the concept, but can I ask another question?
Let's say that the standard throttle body lets in a certain volume of air. I guess then that the ITBs allow in even more air, in total, than the standard throttle body? Is that correct...
Troops,
What are throttle bodies please? What do they replace/or are a substitute for? I'm not very technical, hence the question.
I know that this should be in technical mods or something, but the answer to the question will determine how interested I am in finding out more, so I thought...
Sine - we're talking about the 'new' Grand Punto, not the one that was introduced a few years back. The road tests I have seen have been in CAR, and The Daily Telegraph's motoring section. There may have been others, but I don't recall them now. Fiat's build quality 'improves' with each car; as...
boss, the Punto wasn't a finalist. It could be next year, although I'm not sure what the rules are about the timeframe the car has to be launched in for it to qualify. They're just banging their chests saying that the new Grande Punto is a better car than the Clio (something which, so far, most...
yep, the new 2006 Clio that you can now buy.
Winning order was:
1) 2006 Clio
2) 2006 Passat (!)
3) 2006 159
4) 2005/6 3series
got bored reading after that.
g
Apologies if you know already, but the Clio Mk 3 has won Car of The Year.
"A strong boost for Fiat surely comes from the election of the new Renault Clio as 'European Car of the Year'. The Clio is unexciting, with a cheap-looking interior, sluggish performance and poor styling. The new Fiat...
troops, got the mother of all cracks in the nearside foglight. Misted up already.
any idea how much a replacement costs, and is it something a donkey like me could change? It's a mk2 172.
cheers,
g
metallic black - at times, I wish I did.
bad invincible - yep, I know all about the Saabs propensity for torque steer and wheelspin. Traction control? theres no traction to control! :-)
matt the cat - good points mate; need to choose carefully if I go down the banger route
POW - maybe we...
badinvincible - do you mean a motor bike? if so, i cant ride one :-(
superfastdan - good choice! my dad had a 9000 2.3CSi (I think) and after hed breathed on it, it was ferocious in a straight line. I might start looking... ;-)
g
Tom, lol, yes, Im not too sure how to respond to that!
An Alfa Sud and winter approaching... ;-)
Blink - that had crossed my mind as well... ;-)

Much to my delight, Ive paid off my Clio. Question is, what to do now? Im tired of the Clio to be honest. Its a lovely car but I made a mistake buying it by not thinking that much about the driving I actually do. This is mainly short journeys and I dont get to use the cars power or handling...
mk2 172:
1) Its got the heart and lungs of a bear
2) It punches above its weight
3) Looks very chic, yet purposeful
4) theres nothing sissy about it - everything has been honed for the best in performance, braking and handling, not for looking flashy/trendy/noncy
5) Everyone likes it...
sunday morning, 10am ish, silver 182 heading toward the A30 on Devenish Road. I flash, you didnt.
Couple minutes later, just passing Ascot train station, comes along a blue 182. I flash, you flash back.
(me - red 172 Mk2)
Was it YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU????????

bit torn on this one. Id like to try the 2006 RS Clio, but every single car Ive had has been a hot hatch (bar two) so a change would be good! I like the look of the new MX5 (although I dont like convertibles that much), I like the new Cayman (too expensive mind), but then Im also tempted to just...
creaking noise? Mine does too, sounds like it could be the door creaking in its recess. If its a cluncking noise, it could be the engine mounts (had mine replaced under warranty recently).
g
no idea about the exhaust, Simon. He said it could be an O ring seal or something? But it passed the emissions.
Anyway, I was more worried about whether my headlight washers would leak soon after they activated the windscreen washers!
Its the bonnet stay catch thats snapped, that really...
well done to the Pupster. 1st MOT passed, with only two notices. Bonnet stay catch is bust (thats coz its pap) and the exhaust is blowing just a little but not enough to be a problem. sailed through the rest, yay!
so, keep or sell? keep or sell. hmmm.
g
Has anyone else noticed this on their Clio - when fully opening my drivers door (and then closing it), about halfway along the movement, I can feel like a flexing under/near the seat/footwell as if the floor pan is flexing. I cant see the base of the A-pillar twisting at all where the hinges are...
cheers chaps. I guess my worry - and the question i put to the service chap - was whether my engine mounts would be shot again at say 60k. Ok, not really a fair question for him to answer, but a concern nonetheless.
I guess i also feel a bit bad about this. Its the first time Ive done...
Of those 172/182/Cup owners with the clunk under acceleration - how many of you heel and toe or blip on downshifts? The reason I ask is because Ive collected my Clio and the service chappy said that my engine mounts were about the worst hed seen. This troubled me as I dont wheelspin about and Im...
