Yeah, i think youve got the right idea. Basically the bits that would be at either end of a strut brace.
Ive had the steering rack done now and its handling nicely, i really needed to get rid of the dead spot, especially with the big wheels on, it just needs more power and better brakes now.
You could get a Mitsi Evo IV for that money. Also an E36 M3 - plenty of weight to strip out of one of those - could be v quick. I like 968s but i dont think theyre quite in the budget. Old elise would be good, but youre into your straight line speed arent you? RX-7s, Supras all good.
Im...
Should i? Ive just had a new steering rack and top mounts put in and its feeling great, so i thought i might go the whole hog and get a brace too. Good idea?
Is there one that is the best? or is it one of those any one is good things? I had an OMP one on my pug and it seemed to do the trick.
Rajk - thats mine on the Azevs. 215/40 - 16s if you were wondering.
Glad to hear everythings working out ok rich - youll be back on the trackdays fully sorted before you know it.
I got a few pictures off the camera - theres a real good load from the group ones. I took four or five going round the cars so that you can see them a bit better. Im trying to stick them all together on photoshop in one big high res picture for the panoramic effect, but my computers very fragile...
Didnt cost me that much, and i was paying for 2. I did 650 miles, but since most of them were on motorways, i didnt use alot of fuel.
Im the one completely ruining that first group picture by the way.
Rob - Ive decided on the standard rack. The one ive got at the moment is quite worn, so thats the difference im looking forward to. it should make it a bit easier to correct cos theres not that slack there.
Aaron - I dont have the receipt on me, so i dont know the breakdown, but it cost me...
Ive had the top mounts replaced this week, and i cant believe how much difference its made to the handling.
The front end feels a lot more stable and composed, there is less understeer and - to my great suprise, the car can now be sent completely sideways with a bit of lift off oversteer...
Ive decided to go for just a standard replacement, i don t like going for standard bits, but i think its the best option in this situation.
The reason for going for manual steering would be a small gain in ATW power due to less losses, and more feel through the wheel. But i dont think its...
Its quite light on mine, considering its on 215 section rubber. Its still a lot heavier than most p/s cars though...
But do you think its a good idea to get rid of p/s?
Interesting point.
Ive found a rack, but it would involve loosing the power steering. Im not sure if im that commited to the idea.
Ive started a new topic about whether its a good idea to go back to manual steering....
If you reduce the rolling radius by that much, your speedo will be useless.
You may notice an increase in performance as 15" super ls will probably be a lot lighter than your 17s, i cant imagine the gearing making that much difference, but i could be wrong on that.
they might make it look a...
Im not sure. I need a new rack at some point, so i thought id get it done before the trip. But it just occured to me last night that i could "upgrade".
When i get stuff done on my car i prefer to get performance parts, but im not sure if a quick rack exists for the old clio.
Demon tweeks...
High ratio steering rack for a 1992 Clio 16v? or anyone know who might sell them?
If someone could reply quick please cos i want to get one before we go to Belgium.
Thanks
Ok Ok, you CAN make these engines rev high, but how long do they last and what construction are they?
F1 engines are the pinacle of engineering, very strong and very light, with very short stroke. they are the b****cks, but they still only last one weekend (if your lucky)
Rally engines and...
Sounds like the valver needs chipping. surely a decent chip should sort the fuel/ignition for any throttle position at any revs, im suprised at some of the comments, but ill experiment.
To chip or not to chip - Mr. bank manager? lay it on me
Trouble is with the valver engine - its already revving pretty high. I know you cant really generalise all the time, but ive read that a decent engine in a rally state of tune (not even road) should have a mean piston speed of 3800 feet per second max. The valver is doing 3835 at 7000 rpm...
If the engine overheated at any point it could have warped the head, which is not easy to put right. As Rob said, it could also be cracked, which can be repaired, a crack would cause your gasket to go pretty regularly.
Definately sounds like theyve just gone ahead and rebiult without finding a...
