i guess the plugs could be a fault causing the crap running, it wont explain the rattle though.
Have you spoke to the "adjust timing via laptop" guy? what has he said???
I was recently looking at selling the cup for a 330, after two weeks of looking at the 330 along with practically every other hot/warm hatch i came full circle. It is hard to beat the clio for the price (MPG, handling, looks etc)

I have never done a cup cambelt but i find it very unlikely that you "cannot adjust the timing on these engines unless its linked to a laptop" !
Re plugs you need NGK PFR6E-10, the wrong ones can cause...

Glad you got it sorted, I admit I have used the screwdriver method before in the past without problems however when I last did it on my mates mg it "nearly" didn't come loose before the filter was fooked. Best bet is to get a proper filter removal tool for future. However if you only did it up...
Does it increase with speed? Or when turning left or right ? If the answer is no then that could rule out a wheel bearing. Have you had the wheels off and had a look ?
Yep, previously when it said oil ok if you pressed your trip it would show your oil level by squares above those dashes , no squares = no oil. I always physically check rather than take the display as gospel
