Anyone else had this problem? I've bought a new battery for the 172 and the terminals are smaller compared to the previous battery so now the two connectors don't attach very tightly. Is there a way to fix this? Amazing that there isn't a standard size fitted to them all!
Just wanting to ask those who have replaced their lambda sensor what colour it was when they took it out. I expected it to be black and slightly oily but mine by light brown/cream coloured. I wonder if my engine is running too lean.
Does anyone have any opinions on buying leads from performanceleads.co.uk, do they work ok?
And can someone tell me the best place to buy a coil pack from please apart from Renault?
Thanks
Typical problems like sticking throttle bodies, melting steering wheels and, serv and airbag warning lights are all well known. But is a warped radiator fan housing another one?
The housing on mine warped and eventually it's broke through the radiator. The fix is easy enough, take the fan off...
I'm planning ahead. Car's done 143000 miles now (it's fine at the moment). But if it breaks do I specifically need another Ph1 172 gearbox, a JC5 089 (because of way the speedo is driven), but I can choose any RS Clio engine as all 172/182 engines match the gearbox. Is that right?
Anyone know where you can buy a new spring?
I keep cleaning mine, but bought a spare for the hell of it and it's all dismantled waiting for a new spring.
The other suspension settings thread got me thinking. I have a ph1 172 fitted with 172 Cup shocks (but not the 172 Cup wheels with their different offsets) and 182 Cup springs. An alignment place checked that it's all straight, but can it be tweaked to make the turn in etc better?
I read that DS2500s should out last two or three pairs of discs. So I should be able to just refit the old pads and fit some new discs no problem? Is this right or is it new pads time - they've still got 50% left on em.
Hoping someone on here will know the following. Part of my front shock absorber mounting is worn - the bearing is fine but the big rubber donut is worn out. It means the metal bush now moves about. GSF sell something that sounds right: part number R45714 (STRUT TOP MOUNTING). Has anyone bought...
Quick question, in your ph1 172 does the ash tray have a light?
I ask as there seems to be an orange plastic window on the inside but there is no bulb behind it (it just looks as though there should be).
Thanks
Has anyone found a good place to buy interior bulbs?
I need two for the dashboard (one behind the fuel gauge and one for the dimmer swtich) and three for the electric window switches, also one for the ash tray.
Cheers :S
I had a fiddle with a window switch at the weekend and it can all the taken apart which is good as one of the bulbs has stopped working. Does anyone know what the bulbs are and where I can buy them? They are clear with long wires that wrap over the holder.
Thanks
One of the bulbs in the window switch has stopped working. I've hit it and it still won't work :approve:
So I'm wondering 1. what type of bulb is it? and 2. What other bulbs aren't working any longer - is there supposed to be a light in the ashtray (it looks like there should), is there a...
I notice occasionally a sloshing noise which I thought was water in the sills. I had a good look tonight and it is definitely petrol sloshing about in my petrol tank. I thought the tanks are baffled to stop it happening. Is it possible for the baffles to collapse?
It's a Ph1 172 that's now covered 112,000 miles. Goes like poo off a wet shovel. I wonder how long it will go on for without something major beaking? The Gearbox and clutch are original and work just fine. So does the rest of the car including steering parts. Most of the suspension has been...
My drivers side door is clunking every time I shut it. It's coming from the door strap. I've removed the star screw to get at it better and tried cleaning it and re-oiling, putting grease on it etc and nothing seems to fix it. Does anyone know what the cause is, what's worn and what needs to be...
I can't seem to get rid of the above by using Add or Remove programmes, and I can't find a folder anywhere on my hard drive that looks like a Java related folder.
I get the foll messages when I try to remove it:
''The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is...
I want to change my fuel filter (172 ph-with-an-external-fuel-filter) and I think before I unclip the connections I should depressurise the system. Question is how?
I think you can do it by removing the fuel pump fuse and then trying to start the engine, but I don't know which fuse it is...
I had a new aux belt fitted about a week or so ago and yesterday it broke. I lost power steering and the waterpump - so the engine got a little hot.
All the pumps and pulleys driven by the aux belt feel and look perfectly fine (the water pump, power steering pump, alternator and aircon)...
I'm thinking of not using 97/98 Ron fuel at the moment to save a bit of money (and so not give as much money to the government in tax!) and to instead use bog standard 95 Ron. Does anyone think this is will matter - to the engine or to peformance very much or at all? It's a 172 Ph1.
Cheers
I've got a Ph1 172 and the cam belt has now covered 50k miles since it was changed. Would you be wanting to change it if it was your's or is it ok for a while longer. The recommended frequency for changing the cam belt is 75K miles.
My exhaust is blowing at the back of the centre silencer roughly below the front seats. I'm thinking of getting it welded to sort it once and for all - it's only blowing through a seam. Do you think they can do it on the car without having to remove it? It's got the heat shield above it so...
I fitted a new idle control valve (ICV) today because my idling speed kept bouncing about between 1000 and 1500 ish rmp. I'd cleaned my old ICV a few times and just got sick at it not working 100%. But when I fitted a new ICV the revs went straight to 5000 rpm and stayed there! I took it out and...
