Check cambelt/service history, check the anti roll bar links. Pretty solid engines, start from cold and make sure gear change is fairly smooth and not squeaking.
Ive had one thats broke there, you need a new centre section, they are £180 from Renault. I have a brand new one for sale thats never been fitted if your interested??
They are easy to fit, unbolt from the cat, unbolt the clamp and refit. Your back box looks like its been replaced already??
It will be a bit tricky but if your that worried let a bit trickle out the sump if you can. To be honest if you put in the exact amounts that renault advise it always seems to go just above the max line.
Check the shocks arent leaking, check the exhaust and mounts, make sure the heat shields have not come loose. Make sure there is enough clearence between the exhaust pipe and the trailing arm.
Depends how rusty they are, you shouldnt have any trouble getting the old rings off. A small hammer and chisel got mine off, have to be careful though as they bend.
When I ordered rear discs from GSF they were £130. £164+ vat from Renault.
Theres 2 mounts one in the middle and the one you mention at the back thats part of a bracket.
Rear bracket 7700424339 £17.35 plus vat
Centre mount 7700424341 £6.50 plus vat
Gates do a cambelt kit with the 3 rollers/tensioners, its £121 which is about the same as the Renault one iirc. But the parts are identical i beleive anyway.
iirc the 1.2 8v has a different coolant bottle but otherwise that and the brake fluid res as mentioned by Fred is the same in all clio IIs and some other Renaults. Try the number above they are very helpful and will change parts with no hassle if they are faulty or not as expected.
The guide will be moreless the same, theres one somewhere which gives the amount of oil needed for a 1.2 16v, (I think its 3.7 litres). The location of the filter maybe different, I know on the 8v version its on the drivers side near the aux belt, otherwise it will be on the front of the block...
Have a look on www.opieoils.co.uk. Halfords only sell castrol really and there isnt one thats suitable to be honest, 5w 40w fully synthetic (not to be confused with semi synthetic) is best. Shell Helix, Silkolene, duckhams, mobil1 all do it. Most would reccommend silkolene which is sold via...
Popped to Ceder motors today to order a gasket and there was a black 172 parked down the side, i think it was a w reg. Then another w reg , this time silver pulled up for petrol.
You shouldnt have any trouble changing the discs, unbolt the caliper off, the discs are held on by 2 small torx screws. They may need wacking on the back of the disc with a rubber mallet to get them off.
Fred do you know if the instant gasket stuff sticks too much? E.g. if you come to seperate the centre section from the cat in 2 years time and they are stuck together?
I think Renault use differnt ones for the 1.2 16v depending on the year, if you put in the clio 1.2 16v on ngk website it brings up LZKAR7. Its a bit confusing on that engine but I have some info for other mk2 engines:
1.2 8V NGK BKR5 ES
1.4 8V Champion RC10 PYC or YCL
1.4 16V Bosch RFC50 LZ...
