Parked my car outside my mates house (on a fairly steep hill) and put the hand brake on. The car stayed still whilst I got out of the car and whilst I was waiting for my mate to open the door (because I was watching it!).
When I came out 10mins later my car had rolled 20ft backwards down the...
Minimal problems with mine - the obvious Renault rattles.
Have heard that Passenger/Driver seat often has a faulty subframe which rattles/squeeks,
Spare Wheel well can collect water
Airbag/STOP light due to seat sensor
They seem to be fine apart from that. Hopefully the gearbox thing is...
I have had problem with my 172 when I lowered it 30mm on H&R springs. My brake bias put too much effort to the rear brakes which messed it up totally. On my car there is no adjustable valve - it is all sorted by a load sensor in the ecu (from what I remember) - Even Nick Hill didnt know what to...
I have a full blue underbody neon kit on my 172. They sound tacky but if done properly (so you cant see the tubes) they look wicked. I dont have them on very often but are good for cruises / late night driving. People do slow down sometimes infront of me as they shine through my front grille...
You got a phone number mate? PM it to me and I will give you a bell as I have the same unit. - Might be tricky to sort it out by email backwards and forwards!
The main reason to avoid 6x9s is that subs make sound by moving air.....If you have 6x9s in a parcel shelf their cones will be distored by the air movement of the sub within the boot.
6x9s are ok if you are not running a sub - otherwise they will sound sh*t. I agree with bambam and...
I replaced the gearknob in myt Mk1 172 because I thought the bulbous silver standard one was gay. It was a bit of a git because it needed to be ripped off with grips (glued in place not screwed).
Once its off its easy to fit the new one with the grubb screw/thread provided. Doubt you will be...
CANCEL THAT!!
Its all sorted - just spoke to the mechanic. Apparently the fuse box wiring was fcucked. Had to re-wire it or something and now its all sorted
- Now its gone in for its MOT....help!!
The immobiliser in my 172 just would not let my engine start on Wed eve!! Maybe anyone in the area saw a silver 172 with a spoiler being towed along the A602 by a Skoda (the embarassment!!) - THAT WAS ME!!
Started the car and the fuel pump primed fine but the immobiliser light came on and cut...
There are always upsides and downsides I guess, if FBW does go wrong I bet it will cost a fortune! Hopefully the cable wont cost too mjuch. I just phoned renault and they reckon the part is approx £17-20 + VAT. Dunno how long it will take in terms of labour though
If a loan is a possibility speak to Northern Rock (http://www.northernrock.co.ukwww.northernrock.co.uk). I managed to get a loan for my 172 at 7.1% (fixed APR) over 3 years.
Was certainly the best deal available at the time!
If you have the patience sell your VTS privately (and dont go too...
Hey guys,
My cars first MOT is on Friday!! Doh. I seem to remember a few people with 172s having problems passing emissions?
Was this because of an induction kit? Will it make any difference to emissions having an IK instead of the standard filter/box?
Basically there isnt a manual describing how to remove the door cards. I want to put Dynamat on the inside of the plastic trim to reduce some of the rattles caused by road/stereo vibration. I have put some around the speaker but it hasnt made a massive difference
Anyone done this?

I have 205/40 toyos on 17s with ET38. Havent experienced many problems but I do get more bounce back off the road because there is less give in a thinner tyre. Not sure if this is related though. Your car looks mint mate!
No these are 17s. What I dont understand about the wheel is that I would know if I had hit something- the suspension in my car is rock solid and surely for a hit to bend the alloy it would make a big bang?
Its the rear nearside wheel. Its hardly noticeable - just annoying
Does anyone know how I can have the rim of my alloy bent back into place (can anyone do this?) I must have hit a bump harder than I thought as in one place the outer rim (closest to the tire) bends away from the tire slightly. Its hardly noticeable but I know its there...
Does anyone know how...
Sounds good mate well done, Not sure you will see 20bhp from a chip, exhaust and airfilter, but how one car responds is often different to how another one does. Many 172s are in the high160bhps anyway so it might take some more work to hit the magic 200! Best of luck though dude :-)
