It was £129 in Silver. Its an E-Tech RX6 spoiler from R-Tec. (oooeerr, lots of techs!!) Its virtually the same colour as my Titanium silver paint so looks quite classy.
Bit nervous of drilling holes into the precious 172 spoiler but you cant make an omelette without breaking wind can you...
A lot of people said they look sh*t on hatchbacks. And most of the cars I have seen them on do, but I really fancied one for the 172 so I bought one from R-Tec after offering the thing up to my car.... It looked sweet!!
Its a Silver E-Tec one and is more or less the same colour as my car. I...
I phoned Nick at HillPower to ask advice on the brakes/suspension set up of my car. He was very knowledgeable and was more than happy to help over the phone. I would definately get some work done if Hill Power were a bit closer but its quite a way from me :(
BB tuning is the nearest...
As far as I know -40mm is as low as you can go without Hydrolics. Even most of the coilovers ive seen are adjustable at the front to about 40mm and 30mm at the rear. It wont take too long for them to come out though.... and totally ruin the handling!!!
APEX do -40mm springs for 1 172/Cup. I...
Will you clear youre whole loan with the money?
If so ...do that, if not... sod it. Id buy the UniChip and Koni/Bilstein combo
Incase you are interested I have seen H&R coilovers in POTN for £795 inc VAT.
We have the same car!!
Hi DTWD,
No thats not me, I havent had it MOTd yet. If they are not particularly helpful I will tell Renault to check the brakes and see what they say.
If its definately the discs I can take it back to Xtreme then I suppose.
I have read some previous posts on similar problems and it looks...
I am taking my car back to Xtreme in Harlow today because (among other problems with my braking), the front discs/pads that they replaced are pulling strongly to the left under heavy braking. The Red Dot 6 Groove brakes were fitted exactly 2 weeks ago and have just about worn in.
I have...
Thats interesting Ben cheers, I have got bigger wheels (17s) too - which might make a difference. On a quiet weekend I will put the old wheels back on and see if it makes a difference.
Cheers for looking into this guys. !!!:D
ArmRS - No problems then? Thats is good. I used to have 40mm Apex springs on my 1.2 16V - was v. impressed too
- thats good for me in a way too as I despeately want to be able to sort this problem out (and not put the whole car back to standard).
Its going into Renault on Tues 10th for them...
Hi Sarah,
How you doing? Yeah,It was really good to meet you and the others on Sat. Shame I didnt get other peoples post names as nobody remembers real names due to this forum!!! hehe
- I am keen to know how you get on with your brakes. I dont know anyone else with a Mk1 and this problem...
Yeah I was looking into doing this but I dont think its possible. I have been reading past posts about squirming under breaking etc and it does seem to be aproblem that some people have (not neccessarily on lowered cars though)
The setup (i believe) is slightly different for modern Clios in...
Hey guys,
Everyone with a Mk1 172 thats had their car lowered (on springs only)
- Can you tell me what springs you used?
- How far the car went down?
and most importantly... Has it affected the braking?

Need advice (again!!!)
I have slowly and painfully (following 4 previous cars) realised that modifications only cause another part of the car to get annoyed!!
I am currently having a problem with my brakes!!
Since its been lowered the load sensor thinks there is more weight than there...
Hey guys,
I came over the brow of a hill (in my 206 estate rental car!!) in Stevenage yesterday to see two cops at the bottom in yellow jackets holding a camera on a tripod connected to a battery unit. They were filming the cars coming down the hill.
How do these cameras work? Do they pull...
Craigy172,
I will have to get the details of this place from you as I intend to get my 172 re-mapped with a uni chip when I get my exhaust done. (not much point in getting it done before hand really?)
Will PM you nearer the time if thats ok?
I find these discussions interesting not annoying, so many people have different opinions and experiences......its good to read - They dont have to get arguementative.
To be fair though these questions have been raised so many times the forum search is littered with them!
I would love to...
Yup someone, drove into the back of me leaving Alton Towers a couple of weeks ago. Its all being taken care of by his companies insurance though and has been organised really quick.
I took the 172 to the body shop today (needs a new rear bumper/spraying/bumper mount) and picked up my 1.2L 206...
Just saw these in a magazine last night. They reckon (of course!!) that they are virtually as good as no cat (in terms of power increase/flow through)
£275 though! Still, If my Cat even goes I would rather buy a sports cat than a renault one. Got a funny feeling that the cat setup is different...
Go for 70bhp nitrous jets installed professsionaly. Will probably cost you about £600-700. You will prob only get about 50bhp from it but thats a good increase.
The good thing about nitrous is that you can run the car as standard whenever you want (with nitrous swithched off)
I was...
Think the stats are something like 0-60 in 6.7 for Cup, 6.8 for Mk1 172 & 6.9 for Mk2 172 but these change from site to site / magazine to magazine etc.
Many cups seem to have more power than the brochure suggests too
One bloke on here was getting 184bhp from his standard cup!
Kenwood Dual Mags stuff is very light.
The other option is an 8" JL W3 in a small (think they function well in 0.75 cubic feet) 15mm MDF enclosure.
One 4 channel Amp to power the lot and you are laughing
Get a 2ohm stable amp and the JL in Dual 4ohm voice coil and you can run two channels...
