In short I had to drop the subframe to remove the gearbox, loosened the steering rack bolts so it was loose of the subframe....
Refitted, done them up all up again and now the steering wheel somehow isnt connected to anything, just spins to infinity!?!?
Someone help pronto!!! thanks
Hmmm, it does sound like a rough bearing noise, apart from that everything works as it should. I guess its still gonna be a box out job either way?.....brilliant.
Hi guys,
Have been hooning round Snetterton this evening (only an hour of track time including a 20min cool down in the pits ;)
About 15mins I noticed a slight whine when shifting down into 3rd and 2nd....
After leaving the venue, I noticed the whine being a little louder when slowing down...
Re: Some action pics from Bedford and Nurburgring of my little Cup from last few week
Loving the ring pics, I SO want to go late this year or next summer :)
Yes, do share :) For the next time I'm up that way.....I did a quick search here before I went and wrote a few down but didnt bother going to all due to the crappy weather ;)
Oh, fair do's....I did see a few Clio's but forget which ones, where....
You certainly do, Norfolk roads are rubbish and there's just no hills!! Let alone decent surfaces on alot of them lol.....
Dave, you car wasn't at a house in Chesterfield today was it, as an Inferno was parked on a driveway as I went past. No idea what road or anything though, not my neck of...
Me and the other half went to Alton Towers on Friday, so figured it'd be rude not to go for a drive about today in and around the Buxton area (I'm from farm country, Norfolk :rasp:)
So headed for the Cat and Fiddle first as I've never been along it......it was spoilt by a) A poxy caravan...
Thanks mate.....I know lol it was already fitted when I bought the car and is fitted well. I forgot about it when spraying the bullets and diamonds. I may colour code it instead though...
Thanks for the comments guys!
A detailing I hear you say, I know!!! lol I like to give it the once over myself as much as I can but professional paint correction is out of my league. I would like to get it done some time though ;)
Yes, I bought it already running Apex's....The stance is just...
Hi guys, I've had the 172 over a year now, after 4weeks of purchasing it, the engine blew due to the "little end" failing. (some may remember the thread)
Cut a long story short I removed the old engine but due to lack of funds and loss of enthusiasm (it happens lol), the car was taken off the...
Most cars have some kind of key way which means the cam pulley can only go on in 1 exact position, so its easier to mark up and align. F4R's dont have any key ways so although you could mark them up "roughly", it'll be very hard to get the timing 100% accurate, especially when tightening all the...
Ah right, thanks buddy....If it doesnt go out of its own accord I'm pretty sure I know someone with a code reader, so will see what they can do. Shouldnt be any other reason for it to be on, we'll see. Oh and I've still got a cat ;)
I've sourced another plug, and got the speedo working. However, my engine management light is still on.....firstly would the non-working speedo even make the light come on?
And will it go away of its own accord after a few drive cycles?
Ta
Hi guys,
After changing the engine over in my Ph2 172, the 3 pin plug that goes onto the speedo sensor has the black wire broken, and a small part of it still in the plug. Speedo now doesnt work obviously....
but there's nothing I can do to fix it without replacing the plug with another that...
bump!
I have sourced another engine from a friend of a friend and I know its not a duffer lol Is it worth putting any new bits in i.e big end shells etc while its out? Obviously it'll be getting a new cam belt kit, aux kit, clutch kit, oil etc etc ;)
Thanks for all the suggestions guys, its going one way or another!!
Thinking about it, I may have some of this knocking about somewhere in the garage ;)
If not, some tar remover combined with hot water and fairy sounds like the way forward :)
Whats the best way to remove a fairly large amount of C.V. joint grease from surrounding suspension parts? The boot has obviously split and its everywhere :dapprove: Stubborn stuff that seems very hard to get rid of....
And dont just say a de-greaser, I've tried some but it doesnt half make a...
All advice taken on board, thanks guys!
Regarding putting another bottom end in, I assume you dont mean a "new" one? Just another one from another car?
If so, is it worth changing the big end shells out of course, or not bother?
Ok, finally stripped the engine down and removed the pistons to check what was causing the huge knocking a couple of months back.
Turns out No.3 has literally no "little end" left around the gudgeon pin  Most of it is sat in the sump in a million bits.
Apart from this, all the shells on...
