Edit: clearly I didnt read all the talk before in this thread about taking it out the top. Sounds a much better way if its about the same but saves time with the subframe and other items.
So the trick is to have the engine on a jack to raise or lower depending on what space you need to get the...
I read this the other day, so its easy to lift the gearbox out the top with the engine still sat in the bay yeah. Sounds like a much easier method but I read the discussions and a few people said it was a very tight squeeze? can you give me a few more tips?
Battery and all brackets out on the...
The bumper will be off to change the xenon bulbs this week so ill give those a squirt of penetrating fluid then.
Any way to get to the rear bolts? Even if it means drilling a small hole?
Seems that most favour the out the top method! I was hoping out the bottom would be easier. I suppose I...
Yeah there quite good. I didnt use the one linked but It smelt quite strongly for the first hour or two, gave me a headache.

Right, have read this thread and a lot of threads after searching "sub frame"
I now believe the sub frame bolts go through "captive nuts"? i.e. the nut is welded onto the body of the car and when un tightening the weld can break leaving the bolt spinning around? (writing this for anyone in the...
Sounds good to me, the only difference I can see is from the stock picture on the hids direct and the osram xenarc bulbs is the osrams seem to have metal supports on the glass but the hids direct ones seem to go straight into the plastic.
Anyway hopefully they will be ok even if they dont...
As above, one of my bulbs has gone pink and I'm thinking of purchasing a 5000k set.
I just wondered if anyone has them fitted and is happy with them?, one person has told me they have, but I'd like to know weather they are worth fitting.
Im not expecting them to last as long as Osram or...
Lol I read that discussion in an old thread, was starting to think I would get this done in a long day.
Sounds like there are problems that will hold be back along the way.
So there are clips on the subframe ? I
Won't have a clue till its in front of me.
Why do they spin, because the clips break? Can I buy spares from renault incase I do snap them?
I would take it out the top but I don't have a crane, the part you say always snaps, without getting under there I can't visualise it lol, are these the steering rack to subframe bolts or the fiddly heat shield bolts?
Ok, Ive read the bell housing wont allow for access with a torque wrench easily so just tight yeah.
And just use my brain on how tight to do the clutch cover as well I guess?
With the sub frame off I wont need to wiggle it out the side will I? Just wiggle it off enough and then it will drop...
Cheers Fred!
This is something someone said on the thread linked in my first post
So is that as simple as you've said, just a case of removing the 4 bolts holding the steering rack to the sub frame? so the frame can be dropped?
Alright chaps. Ive put a few threads up but they've gone cold, anyway Im pretty sure my differential bearings are going. I neutral around 40mph and now varying other speeds I have a whine, which Is getting slightly louder as the weeks go on.
The plan is to source a cheap second hand box, send...
My car has orange coolant, Im thinking of changing it for Type D next service.
I didnt worry about it because I've read varying comments, also a Renault tech told me they where using blue or orange stuff when I asked last time I bought a thermostat for a 1.2.
Radioactive green only should it be?
Another video in this thread

Im only interested in them since it seems like my diff bearings are shot.
Watched a lot of Youtube videos last night, out of interest and boredom, listening to lots of videos with suspected bearing noises or gearbox / diff noises. It seems most of the videos are of cars that are at the point where they are about to blow up! where as mine is faint but getting louder...
Could be the dogbone mount, basically the stabiliser for the gearbox. If its only started happening on icy/rough ground its maybe because of that.
New dogbone is around £25 quid, well it was around that when I changed mine on my old 1.2. Change that first and see if it still happens. Easy swap...
No offence mate but is it really worth it, its not like that engine bay has anything to show off? Leave it standard, keep the plastics dressed with plastic protectant.
Ah I see, well as its been colder lately the whine is more apparent, unless its the passenger front wheel bearing I'm fairly certain it's the diff, it whines when the car isn't being pulled forward anymore, I.e In neutral or 4th / 5th when going down hills.
I think I'm going to source the...
All you need to do is jack up underneath where your circle is (under the track rod end) so the thread stops spinning, then tighten that nut back up.
And make sure the nut to the left of your arrows is also tight.
