Was wondering if anyone could tell me where pin 7 of the 15 track connector on the instrument panel (red - not the 30pin one) goes to on the ecu?
for a ph1 172 (CB0M)

spotted a silver ph1 172 covered in chequered stickers along epping new road
then saw a blue 182 heading towards loughton
then saw a blue mk3 again with chequered stickers over the rear quarter
all within about a minute of each other this afternoon.... something going on? :quiet:

I was just wondering how the mk2 trip computer calculates current mpg etc..?
obviously it needs to know speed and fuel usage.
speed is obtained via the speed sensor in the gearbox (for a ph1) and is fed into the ecu. how is it then transmitted to the dash?
I guess the fuel consumption...
trying to connect the laptop up to the diagnostic port but not having much luck :(

'vag com' I know, but it still has the connections for standard OBD2 (pin 7 and 15) and is just a serial<->usb adapter anyway really.

I've been trying to do the timing on my F4R, but I get the feeling the belt is too loose :dapprove: - every time I remove the cam locking tools, the cams rotate against each other and the timing goes! :( - I rotate the cambelt over a few times to distribute the tension as well

I'm after the pulley locking tool for an F4R... is it a Renault only part or will other places do it? - can I get the tool on it's own (i've got the cam and crankshaft locking tools already) and roughly how much is it? :o

I rebuilt my F4R 730 engine and ever since its been running like crap :dapprove:
on idle it can be very lumpy, other times more acceptable with an occasional *slight* misfire that you can hear from listening to the exhaust.
When driving it can be a nightmare. It seems to be throttle...

when pulling my engine loom out, i accidentally pulled off the new bit of loom you can buy for the updated TDC sensor (172)
I've got 2 wires on the original loom - orange and white and the loom for the TDC sensor has A (cream) and B (pink)
can anyone tell me which way they're meant to go...
on a 172, the BE has some 'locating cylinders' so that you can properly align the head (I think? :D)
my BE and head have come back from being decked and skimmed and these are missing... are they vital?
can I just bolt the head on as normal? or will it not align properly or something? :S
I've reused my head gasket about 3 times now. the first 2 times it was only in use for a few miles and the 3 time... about 300 miles I think.
I've since had to take the engine apart again to get it honed and fit new piston rings. the gasket *looks* ok. the block has been decked and the head...
the fuel pump on the 172 mk1 failed on the way home from FCS :(
it's a mk1 ph1 effort, so 1.2 bar i think - is this adequate for a 172?
also, does anyone know what the ph1 172 fuel rail runs at? - just wondering if my performance issues could be down to a weak fuel supply?!

It's my understanding that the circlip is pushed out by the bit that the driveshaft slots in to due to the tapered cogs? my circlip and washer look imaculate, as does the diff...
