During a period of high stress i decided to have a go at removing the aux belt from my phase 1 172. Got it off and back on again but find myself with a M8 x 85mm shoulder bolt left over and i cant remember for the life of me where it came from. Sounds ridiculous i know but have had to deal with...

maybe he didnt put any oil in it. the weight saving would see a gain of atleast a second a lap ;)

Is it ok to run a 172 for a minute or 2 with no aux belt connected ? Need to get it onto a trailer .

what is the purpose of this sensor ? I have disconnected it from the loom and cant identify a difference in running. Should it make a difference ?

i assume the switch should sense the extra load and raises the engine speed accordingly ? what should be the minimum engine speed on idle when under load ?

Have a phase 1 172 on 120K. When using full lock there is an odd noise coming from the engine bay. I have had a closer look and at first thought it was the power steering pump. As the revs drop with the load on the pas pump it worsens. Sounds like it is coming from the top of the engine...

Be sure you mount it out of the air stream. Dont expect it to last long. Mine just fell apart inside. But very loud and a good sound.

I was in the Sunflower coming from Aldwincle. You came past on main road. Bonnet cover and smashed passenger side quarter window ? Had you nicked it ???

Also does it when it is stationery. When i first heard it i was expecting to see the aux tensioner about to fly off but it was doing its job correctly. Its definitely belt related. Have to get inside it i think ....

When on full lock at low speed and power steering working hard im getting a loud 'rattle' belt side. The aux kit ( pulleys and tensioners ) was replaced just over a year ago ( <10K miles ). Is it possible the power steering pump making this noise ? Finding it hard to pinpoint...

Having just fitted new rear discs to our 1999 Meganic Scenic 2.0 the head gasket has gone :( Can anyone tel me if i can transplant them into my Phase 1 172 ? They look the same and come complete with bearings and abs.

Sorry to say but wheel choice is terrible. Forget the looks what effect do they have on the gearing or dont you go above 50 ! Must have plenty of ground clearance.... u planning on doing some off roading...

What do they mean by 'service' brake ? "Vehicle has only just met the required service brake efficiency. Aooear that system requires adjustment or repair." Is the service brake the main system or handbrake ?

Scenic just failed MOT on broken spring at front. Have seen a full set of apex springs, -30mm, at £60 from euro performance. Anyone with any opinions on these ? Also needs rear disks. Do the megane discs have the bearing pressed in like the Clio ?

Is the port in the ashtray of the Phase 1 172 ODB II compliant ?

i had mine go last year. it was rumbling for about 3 months. a valeo kit is just over £100 from eurocarparts i think. the rest is labour. it is quite a big job. lot of labour involved. think its quoted as 6 hours so depends on hourly rate

The part in question is it the sleeve that the thrust bearing slides along ? It is clamped inside the bellhousing around the input shaft ? I had this go on my phase 1 172. The seal had popped off and was leaking oil into the bellhousing and over the clutch. I remember that on the Phase 1 172 it...
