Not weakness as such mate, they're a pretty solid engine (for the amount abuse they get)
Not a massive job headgasket on them, could do it in a saturday without rushing atall
Could be headgasket could be waterpump, could be split pipe.
You got bubbles when you start it in the header tank or oil in the header tank?
Does it smoke white aswell?
Have you had the cambelt/waterpump done yet
Trophy... Trophy.... DCI. How appropriate ;)
Nice pics al. Cue/Pacey don't clean your trophys they look better filthy
*Edit* Music should be East Bound & Down out of smokey and the bandit. A few fast cars, One dirty diesel
As long as they haven't been overtightened, hammer, long thing drift and a fat massive one.
Smash them over the centre a couple of times to shock them - no pussy hits proper hard.
Then whack them round (anti-clockwise) with the thin one.
Works everytime and I've done loads
Not sure mate, not 100%, & generally DTI's where shite anyway, slow, sluggish & loads of black smoke.
E7J engines will never die & I'd say they're pretty good for fuel if you need it to be.
Whats going wrong with it??
They didn't make a turbo D for the Mk1 sadly, 1.9's excellent on fuel though.
You thought of a base spec MK2 65bhp? You can pick them up for around £2-3k and will give excellent MPG. Think autocar or someone got 105mpg at a constant 56mph. Won't have all the goodies but if you need to save...
I'd check your rear pads just for the sake of it - they'll be alright though. Top-up your fluid, go bed your new pads in and see what the levels at.
60-10 60-10 60-10 etc
Its worth changing your fluid aswell when your doing pads etc, so much easier, wheels off bla bla bla.
Check your pads mate, with all 8 pads worn 100% it should sit at the minimum mark. (Should). Theres a reason it'll be low, your pads might be worn.
Yeah DOT4's the stuff though, unless you've had it replaced with other stuff in the past - don't mix brake fluids.
Loads of garages do it, but...
To check the leads aren't arching out, get a long screwdriver and rest it over the lead touching it, then tap an earth (cylinder head/engine mount etc) with the screwdrivers end, it shouldn't do anything.
Mate try German & Swedish www.gsfcarparts.com
Clean/replace your plugs while your at it.
