Turbo Diesel Lump for mk1?

  172
My 1.4 RT engine is coming upto 100k miles and things are starting to go wrong.
So i've had my mind set on a 1.8 16v conversion for next summer but since im a student i've also been thinking about a diesel engine for reliability and a bit of go, what renault turbo diesel engine would fit a mk1? I'll probably still go for the valver but want to know my options

Cheers

They didn't make a turbo D for the Mk1 sadly, 1.9's excellent on fuel though.

You thought of a base spec MK2 65bhp? You can pick them up for around £2-3k and will give excellent MPG. Think autocar or someone got 105mpg at a constant 56mph. Won't have all the goodies but if you need to save cash thats the daddy.

And £50 a year tax is an added bonus :approve:

Does the mk2 engine fit then? how about the laguna dti?

Not sure mate, not 100%, & generally DTI's where shite anyway, slow, sluggish & loads of black smoke.

E7J engines will never die & I'd say they're pretty good for fuel if you need it to be.

Whats going wrong with it??

The Volvo 480 or whatever has a Renulat Clio turbo block in it also some Clio Mk2's came wiht turbo diesel quite rare though. They both fit the Clio the dci shoudl also fit but the eoffrt is huge its not worth it. Once you see whats left of the old car being thrown out theres not much left to love.

DCI engins fit but again forget it the works level huge stick a Williams or Valver engine in if you want its easier and in age for the car.

things that have gone in the past 6 months of owning it

2 core plugs
clutch is nearly gone
oil leak
poor starting sometimes

plus most of the mates back home are driving 150bhp+ cars now and i want to keep up a bit more than with my shabby 1.4! so i'll probably end up doing the valver lump, helped fit a willy lump into my mates over the summer, so if i drop on one with a decent mileage thats probably what i'll do :clown:
