Everyone keeps telling me it's the ribbed idler spacer thats different. :S
Anyway, everything in the kit I had was a replica of what was already on the engine, so I cracked on regardless. It timed up OK, so hopefully everything is right.
Guys was hoping to fit cambelt tonight, was waiting on lower idler spacer from someone but gave up waiting so ordered one from Reno. I ordered a ph2 part.
Is this part right?
.
This is what I currently have :
I believe this is a ph1 spacer right?
Is that all correct? I've...
I'd go along with most of whats been said here really. All I'd say is the cambelt doesn't need to be done at a specialist if you have access to the proper tools and are a competent mechanic.
You'll struggle to find a good 172Cup for that money, but you will find a decent Phase1 for that money.
Have done Buckmore twice in the last year. Both times on Stag Do's. It's a good laugh tbh. We paid about £80 each last time out and got 10 mins warm up and then a 45 min non-stop race, which was exhausting!
After a bit of a lull i'm hoping things can get moving a bit.
Cambelt kit has arrived along with a few odds and sods. I'm desperate to finish off this engine and get it back in the car!
Engine has been put on the stand Iin a slightly odd way - Dad had already put the clutch on!). Head has...
Nige, what a rediculous username. I'm going to see if 'Nige' is free. Loving the Northloop invasion. :)
Hang on, you've already got Nigep on the ntlworld address.
By way of an update (or lack there of...)
After I'd bought the OMP cage for Clio I changed my mind about it and fancied something a bit more substantial, so I decided to cut my losses and sell it.
Instead, after reading excellent reviews, I've ordered a brand new cage from Ktec/Oreca -...
I think from a club point of view, sadly we are out. As Fred says, the implications of a tool failing or damage caused to man/machine using tools belonging to the club is a minefield. The admin aspect of it all would probably be manageable, but I don't think we can take the risk.
As before...
We'd considered buying a set between 5 of us all local in the south east. £30 each would buy a full set and as we all know each other it wouldn't be a problem.
It's a great idea - I'm actually renting the tools off a member at the moment as couldn't face buying them.
I'm just wondering if it is a bit of a logistical nightmare tbh.
I just put up a wanted post on the forum and a local member got in touch. That might be easier for you as well?

That thread helps but I'm still not sure which bit we're talking about. I'll take another look when i'm back with the engine.
Humour me Fred and point out in a picture what idler spacer we are actually talking about?!
The ph2 bottom end had a few bits missing so we had to use bits off the ph1, I'm just not sure which bit the difference refers to.
Hi chaps.
I'm about to order the cambelt kit for the engine we are rebuilding. It's a 172 Cup bottom end with a Ph1 (2000) top end. I've been advised that I need to order the ph2 kit as the differences are relating to an idler pulley on the bottom end. The dilemma I have is that we've used...
