Is it a cup? In which case the rear brake efficiency is a known issue and the tester shouldn't pick up on it. I have the VOSA notice somewhere....
When I say a cup, I mean a proper cup without ABS, not cup packed.
@105e and @Panda
These are Meg 225 calipers (same as 197 I believe) and I run 15s on mine, and they are tight. They are signicantly less tight on my standard 16s;
From measuring disc face to edge of caliper, it seems to be circa 6 cm. I'd allow 6.5 cm to be safe.
It is worth noting...
It could be a number of things, anyone nearby with a RS Tuner or OBD Reader? It could be any of the following, and this list isn't exhaustive;
- Injectors
- Timing
- Coil Pack
- HT Leads
- Pre cat lambda
Takes some reasonably straightforward troubleshooting to narrow it down, just time and...
If it is for track work, and you don't want to go into AST territory then another vote for the BC's. Custom springrates allow you to get a pretty good set up for not huge money imo. Both Mick's and TEG's cars seem to go very well on track with them fitted.
If it is more road, with a few track...
I can measure them for you tomorrow on mine, take some photos.
What wheels are they? I may be able to tell you straight away if they'll fit or not... :smile:
Errr....the gearbox is probably the weakest part of a 197. Why would you want to put it into a 1*2.
For the money, better off putting a VAG 02M six speed box in, as a few off here have.
Why do you want to swap the gearbox out of interest?
Hi,
Two parts to your question. First part, if you want a steering wheel, please start a thread in the "wanted" forum.
Second part, regarding what looks good, in terms of an aftermarket steering wheel, then most plump for a 330mm OMP trecento or similar. Standard, then people get a bespoke...
Depends which ph2 mate. Early ones and cup ones run off the speedo sensor in the gearbox. Mine does for example.
And if you remove the ABS, I believe the speedo doesn't work as I looked into this when I did the ABS removal
on mine.
If all of your wheel bearings are shagged, then yes, you'll get wheel wobble.
Swap out the bearings first. Then if you still have wheel wobble it is down to the wheels / fitment of the wheels on the hubs and you'll need to start troubleshooting.
But first, do the bearings if they're goosed...
Don't get me wrong bud, it looks great and sounds in top shape mechanically.
The 289 needs about £30k put into it to get it up to 400bhp. The standard ones were 190ish bhp when they left the factory. The high power ones (big money for an original hiPo block) were 270ish. There is a 400bhp FIA...
@masekwm Decent coilovers, PMS top mounts and strut brace kit will be significantly better on track than springs. Good move with the diff. Best mod on mine to date IMO.
On road, depends how hard you push it on the road tbh man.
Probably not mate. When you go to coilovers (if you plan to), I'd do it then.
It's a great piece of kit, but the benefits are increased if everything else is "upgraded" or "tighter".
Afterwards bud. Improvements;
- sharper steering
- reduced play and "tighter feel".
- less flex
Although, that is with the brace in addition to the top mounts. Downsides
- harsher ride
In truth, the benefits are only slightly noticeable on the billies. The stiffer you go with everything geo...
Oh don't worry, I've not taken it personally :) Just "reprezentin" the boosted crew....
It's interesting to debate things about. I do wish the F4R was more tolerable to engine mods full stop, but it's a trade off to the great handling I suppose. Dieppe wasn't going to get both right.
Knowing...
