Try taking the switches out and cleaning up the contacts with a wire brush, they may be rusty from when water comes in the window.

    Newbie needs info

Errr, Im not the world expert on Willys and their differences. but Id say if youve got the lolly definitely get a Willy over a 16v. Phase 1 had no sunroof or electric mirrors. Not sure about ABS. Phase 2 would have had an airbag Im pretty sure. Other differences are the cosmetic...

    0-60 times impreza

Hmmm, not wanting to be a wet blanket here, but Id be surprised to see a standard 172 beat a standard new Scooby. They might not be as quick as the old ones but theyre still very quick... ANy 172 driver got a mate with a new Scooby whos willing to 1/4 mile it and see whats what?

You can take as many passengers as you want but each passenger pass costs a fiver more than the driver ticket. If youve got a passenger with their own transport who just wants to see the show, its better for them to pay on the door is theyre only coming for one day. BTW We now have 10...

    Preparing for race with 106gti

Depends if its cross country B-road racing or a straight drag. Id like to say good luck mate cos youll need it. A standard 106 Gti is quicker than a standard 16v in my experience and with a few choice mods itll be even quicker. My advice is dump all excess weight and rather than quick drags...

    Lowering or Big Alloys

Slam it and go for 15s. If you want big wheels the starting point now has got to be 18s anyway, which would take a bit of work to get on. One word of advice - DONT get big wheels without lowering as well. That is the 8th deadly sin. Lowering first, then see how much room youve got to play...

clio cup 0-62mph in 6.7 secs manufacturers time

Yeah thats true Simon, but that Clio is a raw driving machine. FWD can do the biz but most of the time if youre wanting to lay down 250bhp + you need to start thinking about RWD or 4WD.

Keep em coming! So far Ive got 14 possibles through email and on the thread over on the events forum. Plenty of 16vs are up for it already - we need more 172s especially modded, a V6 would be nice, and a few modded RTs would be welcome as well. Im looking for 20 cars and you need to say...

Well if its any consolation Tony, Im lucky to get 250 miles out of a tank. 300 would be a miracle.

    Temporary Clutch failure

Clutch fade definitely. In my experience its caused by standing starts (1/4 miling) and harsh downchanges (track & B-road driving). The clutch hardly gets any cooling at all, unlike the brakes, so it will fade when abused. Even uprated clutches will get this same effect, itll just take a bit...

    Todays the day!

Good luck with it mate. Remember youre still always welcome at all the meets. Plus the 1/4 miling regulars will be ready to race whenever you are. Ill cane you next time we line up at the staging lights mate! Or maybe not...

    Lack of Clios for sale

Well certainly 16v and Willy have always depreciated pretty slowly. Even now youre looking at 4 grand for a good condition car almost ten years old. Theres not many about so they hold their value well and people tend not to sell them on very soon.

Good answer TB1, nice to hear some considered opinions. If I read it right youre basically saying that outright power to weight isnt everything - and youre right. Midrange torque plays a big part which is where the turbo comes into its own I suppose. I still think the 4wd is the biggest...
