Yeah, I will renew my membership, I completely forgot I hadn't done it.
Thanks for the input on the steel wheels, I should have seen that tbh. I will just have a good look round on ebay for some cheap alloys instead.
Anyone got any other words of advise with regards to a track car. It is on...
Hey,
My slightly battered and bruised 172 cup is going to become my track car. But it is going to be on a budget. Want some 15" wheels to save money on tyres so have been looking at some steel wheels on the bay.
Just wanted some educated responses with regards to if this is a good idea...
I was told that if you try and twist the belt in the middle of its longest part (longest distance between two pulleys, think along the bottom) you should be able to twist it approx 90 degrees. That's how I do it on my cup and it works fine.
I would top the oil up, tbh even if it was only 3/4 full there would still be enough oil in it to stop any real damage in most circumstances, obviously not ideal but not the end of the world. I have heard that in some cases gearbox's can run perfectly happily with only 1/4 full of oil, the...
I see that makes sense, so the intake system is actually sealed, but not in the way I was thinking. I guess it is a bit easier to get a good air tight seal that way as well.
Is it just the snug fit sealing it? I would have wanted to seal it with something, although I imagine as it all heats up it will expand and seal itself anyway!
Have you tried admiral or elephant with your mum as a named driver or any other female relative that has had not points or accidents in the last 5 years? I can't see it being that expensive. You could insure a 172 for that much! Just keep hunting around.
Has your mum got her own car and use her NCB on that? If so you have taken out the insurance fraudulently, so they are within their rights to be pissed. There is a list on here somewhere of all the insurance companies worth trying.
The issue you will have now tho (i am not sure so you need to...
I think this might be where I will start. Its the obvious and prob easiest part to change.
Fred, can you elaborate on the "special tool" please? You think I can get it sorted on my drive with a couple of ramps or axle stands?
There is some play in the front wheels / steering of my car. It is noticeable when driving and you can wiggle the wheels and get around 1-2mm play/movement.
I obviously want it sorting but I also have my MOT due so need it fixed.
Just want a bit of advice on what to replace and where the...
I got the 3 tonne one as well, nearly killed me when I was getting it out of the car. Mine seems to be a bit buggered tho (I might just be being thick tho) It has become very stiff to rotate the handle to open and close the seal/valve?
I am trying to find out the diameters of the anti roll bar on a 172 cup. I think the outer are 23mm and inner are 25mm but I need to be sure, could someone let me know please?
Cheers,
Will.
Well at least it can be used as a bike rack as well!
If its going to be a project car then I wouldn't be as bothered by the service history but it would be nice to see if it has had its belts done.
I think if you can find out what its original number plate was then you can call Renault and see...
This is so s**t I really hope you get it sorted / money back. This is why I hate buying used cars, I just hate the feeling something is going to go wrong and then when it does the dealers are dickheads about it (not always).
Also Daniel where are you located as I have a mate looking for a car...
Change the sensor 1st and see if that sorts it. Did mine the other day, 10 min job and it sorted it, sensor was about £10 from euro car parts.. Apparently it is a fairly common thing to fail. Search the forum and you will find explanations of how to do it. You will need a couple of deep...
That would make sense, assuming that if its not connected you can open the bonnet without the alarm going off? Where does it connect to because I couldn't work it out!
Please could someone let me know what this wire is for and where it should be connected to. I found it in my engine bay today while I was fitting a new dog bone mount. The wire is at the front of the engine bay, in front of the air box. The car is a 172 Cup!

This is a pic of...
Spotted you pulling into the Mill Stone car park. Silver 182 with a CS sticker in the rear window. I was just walking out of Halfords. Your car looked very tidy.
WOW, I am impressed. Good you can get it fixed and she seems to be a nice enough person too just pay like that! Also you were luck as unless you had a witness or CCTV you would have been fucked trying to prove it was her fault!!
Will you let us know when the races you are competing in are please, I would love to come along and watch, can help out on the day if you need? I am pretty good at making tea and coffee :approve:
MPG = average between 30 - 33 realistically with mixed driving. I do 60 mile round trip to work, mostly motorway ant 80ish. Although if you are a bit more careful that will go up. On a motorway blast at 70 you could push for 40 i think.
Tyres = you don't have to go for the most expensive...
I think you should go for it. Will you be able to lock it if you need to tho?
Also I really dislike these cars but i must admit I think yours looks great. The wheels suit it really well!
I have just dropped my keys off with garage and they are going to pick the car up a flat bed on Tuesday. They are aware of the oil light being on and said they will have a look!
