I'm thinking of doing this as it's much cheaper than the other options, only thing is I'm worried about how difficult it is to fit/pick the correct map etc. Can anyone shed some light on this for me as if it is prety straight forward I'll probably order myself one too
Thanks
I think so yeah I'm assuming thats all that will have been touched to wire up the Omex?
If it is then thats all i will need. Do you have a number for Specialist Breakers mate?
I'm in the middle of putting my 172 back to standard engine wise so I can sell it. I need to remove the Omex ecu but it has obv been spliced into the standard loom. I assume it would be easier to just get hold of a new loom (or part loom) and just remove the omex and loom.
Sorry for the long...
He doesn't have it no. I'm not involved its just a mate of mine who knew i was on here and asked me to ask. Is it a renault manual Ben?
If so I might see if I can get hold of one
Hi guys, a friend of mine is doing some work on a 172 and has the cam timing tool but wants to be 100% sure he is setting the cam timing up correctly. Does any kind person happen to have a step by step guide which they could post here/pm so i can pass it on?
Any help would be great cheers :-)
nah mate bored of them and i will enjoy the car for a while as it will be a while till i can afford the bodies etc but just wondered what the actual diff between to setups was as on paper they don't look all that much diff
So Fred, you will have driven cars in both states of tune (i assume) so how much difference is actually there between them on the road? (assuming that both cars are set up well by the mappers)
lol laughing gas is definitely not an option this time mate. I'm just looking for info to see whether i should just sort the inlets or save for some Jenvey's
I'm due to get my car back and its running omex, schrick cams, 182 mani etc etc but will be on standard inlets for now. What i want to know (and opinions from people who have driven both would be apppreciated) is what is the actual real world difference between cars with the above mods but on...
Sure was mate :-). Its HOPEFULLY gettin the map sorted today and i will have it back tonight if nothing goes wrong (famous last words where my car is concerned lol).
What were you down there for?
My 172 has been in the garage for a while (read f**king ages lol) has had a brand new bottom end, reconditioned head, cams, remap etc. Some places are telling me it needs run in and treated with kid gloves for 1k miles others are saying it doesnt. Can anyone suggest whether it does need run in...
As far as i know Ben yeah. I think i'll give omex a call and even if i need to buy another serial cable as it could be something as daft as that lol. Thanks for the replies aswell guys i appreciate the help :-)
I've tried 2 different laptops and neither will connect to the OMEX but as said before the car does start and run :-S. Does anyone have any ideas on what i can do as all i need to do is connect to the ecu and load on a map and the car will be done. I'm geting desparate now :-(
I cant ditch the Omex as the car is now cable throttle and with the cams etc needs a map. Thanks for all the advice guys we'll have another look at it then take it from there :-)
I'm having bother with getting my omex ecu set up properly. the car starts (mk2 172) and runs but is not running right as the ecu still has a map on it from when the car was going to run tb's. when we plug the laptop into the ecu it just says ecu offline all the time. also the rev counter does...
Kind of off topic but realistically what are the performance differences between the throttle bodied cars and those running the same kind of spec as Mark's? That might help him decide whether to spend the cash on Tb's or to invest in something like an LSD instead
its not going to run on FBW Ben. i got hold of a plenum and throttle body off a mk1 172 and i've still got my own plenum aswell (mk2 172) so it'll just be running a standard 172 cable throttle body Fred. the omex is already wired up to the loom just the guy in the garage was asking about the TPS...
