I am now potentially buying a 197! I am unsure of the last timing belt change so I would have to do one! My question is, does the 197 essentially have the same engine as a 172/182? In terms of locking tools etc for the cambelt? Is it the same cambelt kit and dephaser etc? Many thanks!

Why is the Renault belt easier to fit then? Cost isn't an issue, but just wanted to price it up at the moment. Cheers

Ok that would be great thanks! I'm guessing I won't need to remove any camshaft pulleys just to do the belt and water pump, so will only need the crank pin and the horse shoe for the cam shafts! Cheers

I'm in a position to refit the head to my 182. I would like to know what the procedure is for refitting it. I'm concerned that I could bend a some valves depending on when in the cycle i put the camshafts in. Any advice? Cheers

yes i believe so, I got everything apart just fine. so has the head gaskett not got a sealant?

Do I need this paste I have heard about? The stuff that needs rollering onto the block or can i just fit the head gasket? I'm Planning to do it today. Thanks

Started motor is likely to click if your battery is low or dead, that could be the noise. Probably the alternator or battery knackered!

Update ----I got the final tools on wednesday and started to dismantle tonight. Well, i've got the head off and removed the 8 valves that were in the cylinders with no-compression. I found that i have 4 bent inlet valves but exhaust valves are fine. I put parafin in the head, in the other two...

Well i haven't attempted to take the bumper off yet! Didn't know if grill, lights, bumper or arch liner come off first etc. not a stupid question at all, Just trying to save maximum time. Thankyou to those of you who are here to help!

Yes i've got renault tools, bar the horse shoe and the crank pin! How exactly does the bumper and light come off/out? Any help is gratefully received:)
