172 heads have to big of exhaust ports. When I'm doing head work port people I always tell them to get the 182 head and get that ported.

It's part of the casting. Don't want to weld it up as its close the the seats and could crack them.

Lots needs to take out, I have a customer that has one of my heads in his Mk2 escort, ST170 engine making 230bhp on standard inlet manifold. Yep done one, there is room for improvement. You just get many people tuning these engines to that level whee head work is needed.

The one I tested was a eBay one. No gains from that. I ported one and got a few more cfms.... Well a total of 5. Not a lot and not a lot would show up on the road. I will port inlets if people want them but I say save the money and get the head done instead. Cost of a inlet doing is £150-£200...

You would need to do a back to back and make sure the temps are the same To many factors with dyno when the tests are done far apart.

172 ports are too big and the the182 are too small so the 182 can be opened up to the optimal size.. Bigger isn't always better.

Tested a ported inlet on a flow bench and the gains were massively ................. The same as standard.

My ported heads are £400, I don't do exchange sorry so you would need to send me a spare or your own.. Power wise on a standard engine I'm not sure as most people that get head work done have other modifications. Phase1er had one of my heads to give you a idea.

And yours was running a ported standard inlet and plenum. if you fitted ITB's then I'm sure yours would of done 210-230 as well.
