’Intelligent’ wipers

  tiTTy & SV650

God the wipers on my 182 pi_s me off, twice theyve got confused and stopped working altogether, most recently at 80 when going to overtake a lorry (i.e. in a hell of a lot of spray) on a single carriageway!

Had to pull over, kill engine and re-start it to get my wipers back!

I think I preferred bog standard normal, fast and stupidly fast settings in older cars.

Anyone else have similar problems?

Its one I can live with for now (until I hit an oncoming car when overtaking a lorry blind I suppose!)

its happened twice in 12k miles so aint too serious, it rains too much in Scotland, thats probably the problem!

Yeah, make a weather-changing device... Will prob be cheaper and easier than getting Renault to sort it out :p
Yeah thats in the pipelines...

Driving upto work today (300 miles) the rear wiper packed in for about 15 minutes, funny things French Electronics

not had that problem....but they do bug me....they always do 1 wipe too many when you clean the windscreen and end up smearing it !

I totally agree. They are a complete waste of time. Mine are so indecisive that they cant decide whether to wipe, stop, wipe again, piss, sh*t or what!!! The just end up making me dizzy and scrape my windscreen to death when theres no bloody water on it to wipe!!!!!!!!!

...and my rear wiper stopped working for 10mins last week. God knows why but its ok now.

Give me standard intermitent like the Cups and my old Mk1 172.

Cant you switch off the auto-wipers ?. I read somewhere that you can (reverting to normal style wipers).

Ive had the rear wiper thing... Tried to wash the rear screen and it didnt wipe, then it suddenly came on, not intermittant, and wouldnt turn off lol.

I asked on here when I first bought my 182. The answer was no. shame really.

They certainly ARENT intelligent wipers...... theyre bloody stupid ones if you ask me!

Ive said it b4, and ill say it again, they are just another gimmick thats bound to go wrong sooner or later.

Give us back variable intermittant, or at least give us the option of turning it off.

Thought that if you flicked the stalk up to the highest position that this turned em off - seems to work in the morning when you have a few drops after clearing the ice, but nothing worth wiping.

Then arent there more settings past auto.

Or am I just a wiper r****d?

I think...

• fully up - off
• next click - intelligent wipe controlled by the sensitivity wheel on the stalk (allegedly!!!).
• next click - constant wipe at standard speed.
• next click - constant wipe at Warp Factor 9.7.

sorry if Im wrong.

My inteligent wipers dont always seem that inteligent. Usually when it is spitting or light spray of the road they seem to randomly choose if to clear the screen or not. No probs if its raining heavily though

turn the sensitivity down on them.it can pee you off at times but it saves moving your hand a bit and when it stops and starts raining every 2 mins its worth it.i love em (all night long):D

Its down to the amount of rain on the sensor thats all but if you dont like it just use em as manual. ie positions 1, 3 and 4 and ignore the intelligent setting.

Cant see why you would have to stop and start the engine, turing them onto constant would have been a bit easier wouldnt it?

Check its not wet in the passenger footwell i had wiper problems and it turned out to be a leak around the bulkhead, mine ended with a fooked UCH unit and a 13 week wait for it to be fixed due to the water damage.

well had to stop and start because they stopped working altogether and it was pretty dam dangerous in the conditions. I do understand how theyre supposed to work - Im not a wiper r****d (surely that must be a new insult?)

From now on anyone you see driving with their back wiper going in the dry or the stupidly fast wipers on when its unnecessary, call them a wiper r****d.

My auto wipers AND auto lighting were turned OFF as soon as I got my Dynamique. I hate them - I need to be in control.

Im amazed you cant deactivate them on a 182.

I think theyre f*cking dangerous personally, they never wipe like they should, the smallest drizzle they wipe when you dont want them too, then when it starts to pour down they just sit there, just as you move your hand to turn it to manual they start to wipe, then ten seconds later into the downpour they decide to pause.....(and yes, Ive tried all the different sensitivity settings)

Who knows why renault decided not to give us the option of disabling auto wipers and make that setting revert to intermittent, although I probably guess the result would be the salesmen going "Yeah, its got automatic wipers, but the first thing youll want to do is switch it off so that you get intermittent that works (and so you dont kill yourself)".

Every time I visit the dealer I mention the fact that these things are dangerous. The dealer seemed to think that you could have the stalk replaced and that would give you intermittent.

I dont find them that bad but sometimes they are annoying, as are the clicking relays (ok there annoying all the time). Thing is with the stalk I find whatever sensitivity u put it on makes no difference.

  tiTTy & SV650

dam right the clicking relays are infuriating! I tend to use the traditional settings so I dont have to listen to the relays everytime the sensor decides to wipe.

Its annoying when you have a sort of fine mist / spray on your screen and the sensor just doesnt detect it, so you have to manually flick the wiper on then off.

That last flick you get about 10secs after you think your wipers have finished always puts a streak on the window too - grrr

And yeah I dont always see a difference when I vary the speed on the auto wiper.
