02 172 DOOR FELL OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just got back from the pub, parked the car on the drive, went to shut the door and it made a crunching noise and then was hanging about six fecking inches lower. It opened and shut fine and there was nothing obstructing it when we got in the car. Cant quite believe it at the moment, Im guessing one of the pins has snapped but as its pitch fecking dark and I dont really want to open the door again now its shut (after me and my girlfriend hanging onto it). Has this happened to anyone else?? Can I get anything out of Renault, surely a fecking door should not fall off after three years?? Not sure of the damage yet but is it likely to be severe??

Thanks,

Mike.

Is it really that much lower?
One of my pins in the Williams has snapped, but it only very slightly drops the door.. can still use it normally etc..

Maybe the design is different on the Mk2s in that if a pin snaps, it really is bad, heh.

Common on Mk1s to happen tho!

I certainly know several people where Mk2 door has swung hard and twisted ... door skin begins to de-laminate and the door drops a bit.

Went out and assessed the damage this morning. The top pin on the drivers door had fallen out and they do hang very low when this happens, believe me!!. Because of the shape of the doors the pins have to be inserted from the bottom rather then the top and then a sur-clip goes on the top of the pin to hold it in place, this had obviously come off and the pin worked free. I just have to get a new clip (or two) and hope nothing has bent too much as those doors weigh a chuffing tonne!!!!!!!!! It doesnt seem as bad this morning as it did last night and luckily I found the pin on the door sill, just going to be paranoid every time I open the door from now on, FLUCKING RENAULTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah youre telling me, going to check the bl00dy pins every time I open the door now, not a pleasent experience at one in the morning after 10 pints, good job I left it until the morning. Its now fixed, getting the pin back in was a b1tch, cant believe its only held in by a flimsy clip, they should have drilled it and put a split pin through it in my opinion. Why cant Renault just makes things properly!!!!!!!!!!!! Door opens and closes fine so no damage done, just makes for paranoid motoring what with the clutch clunk, exhaust rattle and engine mount knock!!
