You carn re-use a lot of bits tbh and its very straightforward, but there will also be bits you should really replace even though they might not be necessary. The gearbox and driveshaft off the 1.4 can be used with the RSi engine. Tbh I would say that if you are doing the conversion anyway you are as well putting a 1.8 16v engine in there as they can be bought nowadays easily for under £100, and you will pay about the same for an RSi engine but get and extra 30 odd bhp from the 16v.

Try doing a search on here about this conversion as I considered it in the past and found out about everthing needed so it should all be on the forum somewhere. Also try search for some of my post over on www.retro-renault.com as thats where I got most of my advice on it, you might have to look in the archive bit on that site but it should still be there.

Just a quickie, whats a sleeper?? And when u drop a 1.8 in do u declare it to the insurance or just keep it as a 1.4 on the documents?

A sleeper is basically a car that looks as though it should be pretty slow but is actually quite a quick car, or at least quicker than you would expect.

Really you should declare it, some don't but imo its just stupid not to as you are taking a massive risk and could get fucked for it if you get caught. The main problem is that its so obviously a different engine when you put something like a valver engine in a 1.4 shell.

Drop in the 1.4 5 GT Turbo lump, a standard engine will provide similar performance to a 16v clio but without the weight. If your SENSIBLE about tuning it then you will have reliable power and more performance than a 1*2.
Torsion Tuning in Essex were one of the first to do the transplant

NNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooo :quiet:

the RSi engine isn't particularly that quick, but it does drink petrol! as it's heavier you will more than likely have to change all the suspension and brakes with it.
A 5 GT Turbo engine can be bought for not much at, maybe buy a blown one and have ago at rebuilding it, no harm in trying. Suspension and brakes are fairly similar, although I'd personally would still want to upgrade them. Plus you get a shed load more performance

Anyone who says a 5 turbo isn't reliable is either a chump that has never owned one, Knows nothing about them, or owned one and doesn't know how to look after it! I had mine for 2 years and the only major problem I had was a leaky fuel tank, but then I know how to look after a car.

As long as you let it warm up properly before thrashing it then let it cool down properly before switching it off, use decent fuel, and don't be a n*b and turn the boost up past what the engine is currently built to handle, it will live longer than your likely to keep it.
Fit an uprated headgasket set and bolt, alloy IC, flush the rad to make sure it's cooling properly and set the fueling to match at 14psi boost and say goodbye to most lightly modded 1*2.

The 1.8 8v engine is very heavy and sluggish, and not a great basis to start modding from. The 1.4 rt with decent exhuast and decat, enclosed IK and CAF won't be far behind it. A cam change or head work will see it past an RSi.

Plus the rt or a 5 Turbo off boost are both pretty good on fuel economy for commuting, considerable better than the RSi. Try and speak to people that have done the turbo conversion before you make a decision.
