i would like to turbo it,but everyone i talk to said there quick but are not reliable,i will b using it to and from work and a bit of fun here and there.
Anyone who says a 5 turbo isn't reliable is either a chump that has never owned one, Knows nothing about them, or owned one and doesn't know how to look after it!
I had mine for 2 years and the only major problem I had was a leaky fuel tank, but then I know how to look after a car.
As long as you let it warm up properly before thrashing it then let it cool down properly before switching it off, use decent fuel, and don't be a n*b and turn the boost up past what the engine is currently built to handle, it will live longer than your likely to keep it.
Fit an uprated headgasket set and bolt, alloy IC, flush the rad to make sure it's cooling properly and set the fueling to match at 14psi boost and say goodbye to most lightly modded 1*2.
The 1.8 8v engine is very heavy and sluggish, and not a great basis to start modding from. The 1.4 rt with decent exhuast and decat, enclosed IK and CAF won't be far behind it. A cam change or head work will see it past an RSi.
Plus the rt or a 5 Turbo off boost are both pretty good on fuel economy for commuting, considerable better than the RSi. Try and speak to people that have done the turbo conversion before you make a decision.
