so my new car had no detail of a cambelt/aux belt, but otherwise decent history. however today i put it in for belts, with the assumption they must have been done....:nono:fail. cracked tesioners, rusty bearings, cambelt rubbing said the mechanic. close shave there.

true, mechanics said going by the state of the pulleys and tensioners he reckoned on original. had my pants pulled down on the price though, wrong side of 600.

Tbh mate that sounds a better price than renault main dealers, they would have cost you in excess of £750-£900

Still atleast its done!

Thats quite expensice, renault specialists on here i think charge around the £400 mark and thats cars with aircon

That's not a bad price really! Especially if you had both belts , tensioners and pulleys done!?

Who did your belts pal??

i was going on what others had said on here tbh, clinton garage in midlands, they helped me out with the mot so i shouldn't complain and they know whats what, i think its just the fact of parting with a months wages, never easy lol.

  Maybe a 172 Cup..
Who did them as above, and no specialists near you?

Do you know if mechanic had locking tools for belt????

yeah he'd done others before hand, so had all the tools.

can finally have some fun now, been worried about belts so been driving like a grandad since i've had it.

Atleast it's a weight of your mind, as said I would only ever go to a specialist to get any work done on my car especially were belts are concerned, so many stories of garages f**king up the timing due to not having the specific cam locking tool! You would have known by now if the timing was out anyway supposed to be very obvious loss of power!

fred isn't far from you is he not, I'd of took it to him personally!

yeah, i dont know whether i'm imagining things but it does, quieter!? mind u i put new front shocks on as they were shot for mot so that helped quiet things down. she's nearly done now, next oil and filter, clean and go.:D
