Re: 50% complete 172RWD!
How much do you think a rear engine conversion costs, both doing it yourself and getting it done elsewhere, based on the amount of hours, work and parts involved stevo? I remember the days when a mk3 escort could be converted to rwd for about £1k but a rear mounted engine is more extensive so I image much more expensive to do.
Some people don't understand why anyone would do a job like this but I think what you are doing is commendable; you are creating a car that is unique to you, the hard work and skinned knuckles (you will have no doubt experienced) will make it even more personal and regardless of how it goes (I can assume from what you've written about the spec it will be quick) nothing will beat that feeling of accomplishment.
Personally I've always wanted a clio v6 and even considered buying a cat B (parts legally usable) rolled vee and converting my rsi to rear drive using the engine + cradle etc; basically chopping everything worth saving out and transplanting it into my car and strengthen the shell, if it could be done cheaper than buying a real one.
This idea might sound daft but I couldn't give a damn, it would be kept for a good number of years (or untill it falls to bits
) and stored during the time I don't use it.
