14bhp from an I/K

  BMW E46 330i Touring
Just been looking through all the paperwork that came with my car and there's some RR results from a local garage that the previous owner had done.

Now, I know that the figures aren't reliable in themselves, but the results show:

Before I/K fitted: 140bhp @ wheels (6000rpm) - 182bhp @ fly.

After I/K fitted: 151bhp @ wheels (6250rpm) - 196bhp @ fly.

The printouts are on the same day, so conditions, etc would be the same.... is this increase possible without any remap to go with it?

Incidentally, a later RR at the same place, with the stainless backbox, shows a dip to 147@ wheels and 191@ fly.

Unreliable results mate, simple as.

What RR was that done at? Sounds like it either isn't calibrated correctly, or they're making results pleasing to people. 196bhp for a 182, is pretty impossible from just an IK, would expect the IK to lose it 2-3bhp and bring it down to 178bhp ish, as most 182's don't even put out 182bhp at the fly.

Re: 14bhp from an I/K?

It gets funnier mate, look at 'my car'. :S Hmm, 10bhp increase from new!?!

I think it must be an unreliable RR, or they are fixing results a bit to please customers. It's one in the SW, called Rowleys Garage (Rowleys Performance Engineering).

I knew the '182' initially would be out, but was more wondering about the gains. But I suppose if the original result is so inaccurate then anything following probably will be too...

Ack, didn't see you had a 172...

Personally if the paper is soft enough to avoid chaffing, i would wipe my arse all over those print-outs.

Sounds right dodgy though that does, though having said that theres not that many good dyno's around.

Lol, nah it's good quality paper... I'd say 200gsm at least so will be going nowhere near my arse. Plus it's quite an old printout so is kinda yellow and manky.

Might make a decent table mat though...

The power gain is unlikely, despite the figures.
They are also very generous with their transmission loss calculations.

I was about to say... 151 - 196..... over 22% losses!! That's some loss for a FWD car!

It could be possible... I/K's will nearly always show some kind of increase. When a car is on the rolling road the bonnet is open - no heat in the engine bay and a big f**k off fan pointing right at it. Not a true reflection of what's ahppening when you're on the road!!
