16v Exhaust

mas

Car  MK7 GTD & Mini GP
Picking up my magnex cat back exhaust today, i have been told of people they fit stright on, and of others they wont... whats the deal, anyone know if it will go straight on?

mines a mk1 RT - i know the bends are the same and lengths, just the bore people seem to get confused about.

cheers! :D

Try it and see. It should all bolt together fine but you will probably have a step between the downpipe/de-cat or cat/centre section where the bore size is bigger.

Matt

cool, people say it will need a de cat and then should fit straight on, as apparently the decats for the 1.4's are the same as 16v etc...?

well got it, and got problems allready.

pic of my diagram, its annoying as fook.

ARRGHHHH

Cut the cup off (angle grinder or something) just an idea.. Glad you've done this before as i was gonna get a valver exhaust to put on my RT lol

got it fitted today down at my local garage, the zaust from cat back was fine fitted great, but they couldnt fit the decat due to the cup fitting... i am going to buy a new decat with a flat gasket and that should fit fine...

i will get a vid up later, love the sound, really raspy and not stupidly loud on idle which is what i was after. :D

with it fitted, i have just had it up on the stands and jacks, needed a good gun gumming...

fixed the blowing, but it sticks out just a bit too far, and looks like it is going to hit the axle and knock! :(

how can i make it sit a bit further back?

b****cks, just been out with it on... i absolutley covered the joins in gun gum, all over it, and its blowing again?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Could it be that my actual Cat is blowing?

need a decat soon anyway, ive made a little vid, but just getting a video editor to do it with now.

no its because you dont; have the right gasket?

Surely even something with limited intelligence such as a dog for example could easily tell that guin gum or some other crap will not in anyway shape or form seal a hole of that magnitude

if you took the time to read the above post's chris, you can read "i did not fit the decat"

the join is my magnex middle section, joined to the original cat, flat to flat!

thats checkmate to you, apologies.

did you clean the flange up? I use either the grinder ansd wire brush attachment or drill and wire brush attachement.

you uise new botls and nuts and tighten it properly and not like a girl?

no probs mate.

yeah, cleaned it up before putting it back together. i think i will take it off again tommorow, as i want to cut some of the rear pipe down so it will sit further back...

will make sure bith contacts are clean and then re tighten up, yeah new bolts were used and never tightened like a girl, pain in the arse to do it though when i only have the car jacked up, neck ache.

is it possible for the cat to just be blowing internally?

jack it up and start it, can you feel it puffing aroudn it?

even better get a mate to stick a rag over the tailpipe and that will soon show up a leak

i will have a good check tommorow, clean it all up and re seal...

i will also have a check for blow's around the cat as that is where i think i can hear it coming from...

cheers for the tip about the rag, will try that too! .. mmm back pressure :)

here is a clip of the exhaust, will post the link when it uploads!

If you took it to your local garage to have it fitted, take it back if it's blowing!! Them getting it up on the ramp and adjusting it slightly will have a lot better chance of stopping it blowing. Plus I'm sure you paid them to fit the exhaust, not half fit it, am I right????

they fit it, but i know the guy who runs the place..... so i barely paid. cheeky to ask them lol.

Patrick - Yeah the full cat back system worked fine, so will the de cat too, just need to find one with the correct gasket and seal.

so is this exhaust designed for a valver? y dnt u buy an rt decat frm ebay i got mine for 30 quid brand new

yeah the exhaust is designed for a valver, but they are the same, bends and mounting points are exactly the same!

im getting a blueflame decat soon.

oh coz i always thought that the valver exhuats were different. i think ur onyl prob will b that the flange that connects onto the decat will be the wrogn direction?

yeah, i see what youre saying, i have been told by a number of people that they are exactly the same, boith the decat for the 1.4 and the 16v are the same...

will get one and see how it goes, as long as it is flat to flat, should be ok

i got it cheap off a breaking valver, 2nd hand but in very good nic.

30£... you can get bargains if you try :)

yeah cheers matey, im 99% sure the decats fir, just need the correct gasket joins and not the cupped one like above. because if the normal system meets up with the decat, no reason why the decat should not lline up
