172 cat to exhaust studs

  172 Turbo
I'm well and truly stuck trying to change the gasket. Looking from the front, the left stud refuses to budge.

Ive managed to muller the nut, none of my mole grips can get a good grip and I've just bought a dremel and the cutting disc is too wide.

What is the secret?

Has the nut or bolt head rounded yet? If not, soak with WD40 and make sure you have good contact with a ring spanner and socket from either side. It should work free with a bit of persuasion.

3 of us spent about 15 mins trying to get the left hand side nut out of a 172 cat the other night. Best to have a socket and spanner on each side as cupman says.

Also, I've found it is best to use a 1/4" ratchet with 4" extension and flexi joint. Use this from the under side and the spanner from the engine bay.

Had enough of this now, forth attempt today, the end of the bolt is cross threaded and I'm stuck! Can't get nut splitter in, and can't force it past.

I'm thinking that if I do up the other bolt fully, then it may release the tension/pressure on this one and become easier to get out? Perhaps I'm going about this the wrong way.

Took it to a pro, he admitted he didn't want the job.

Went to pro 2, he said to come back at 4, waited around and he got the gas our and burned out the nut. Should've done that at the start!

Cost me £10 in beer tokens, it's kept the car off the road for 3 months as I've been trying to fit it in around life :(
