172 - Chirp Chirp Chirp Between 2k – 4k’ish

Afternoon all, I now have my first FWD Frenchie since a 205 gti a had a few years ago.

The known to do list has gone quite well:
- No HVAC fixed with the £3 resistor from RS Components.
- Misfire fixed with a new no 3 injector.
- Rear shock replaced (previous owner did one for the MOT, but left the other in the boot).
- Thumb cover things ordered.

But I have a squeaking / chirping noise from the left hand side of the engine. The frequency increases with engine revs between 2k and 4k, where it then dies down. There’s no diesel chug like the dephaser is shot.

I’m guessing it’s a pulley or component on the auxiliary belt? But as I’m new to these I thought I’d ask the experts!

I had a left hand Alfa headlight on eBay some years ago.

When the buyer received it, he complained I`d sent him the wrong side!

Assuming your 172 is NOT a Cup, with no aircon and a manually adjusted aux belt, check that the spring of the aux belt tensioner is not constantly moving.

It should not.

Many thanks for the comments.
Its a non Cup, with AC.
Only history of belt change it a K-Tec receipt for both belts in 2010 at 50,000 miles. Its now on 86k, so they are overdue.
I was hoping to trundle around in it for a few months to see if I like it before going 'all in' for new belts and dephaser service.
Whilst I'm here, any specialists in Beds / Herts for a belts service? All the independent's I've spotted are chuffing miles away!
