There's been some scepticism at asking prices recently. So interesting to note that a one-owner 49k miles 172 Cup sold on Collecting Cars for £7,675.

There's an additional 6% fee to the buyer, so the total buying price is £8,135.

This is for a car that has mismatching tyres, several MoT advisories, a cracked grille, missing badges and some wear in the interior, i.e. needs a few quid spent to make it mint.

Apparently car dealers are doing gangbusters business so it could be a temporary bubble post lockdown. Or we could be seeing a tipping point as these cars and their parts all now approach 15+ years old and scarcity starts to become felt.

When individual cars sell for a price that is clearly an outlier I tend to assume that there’s a reason specific to that car.

Original owner buying it back? Collector buying a 49k unmodified example?

The tyres wouldn’t matter to either of those hypothetical buyers but I don’t think one or two cars validate the dreamer adverts where top money is asked for average Cups.

Would a Miami fetch more? Seems to me the previously rarer colours are just as numerous as the more standard colours nowadays. Probably because they have all been cherished and the more vanilla colours not so well cared for. 205 prices are crazy, have owned 5 in my time all of which sold for sub £2k (we are talking 20 years ago) I’m a little gutted I didn’t keep at least one 😂
